@aoktar - yes ... the scene attached works fine because the Render Instance check is set to off. Try to set it ON and then render to reproduce the crash. Thank you in advance. (if Render Instance is not checked... does Octane save vram anyway?)
I think it's even stranger than just the "render instance" bug. I can reproduce that too but only with spheres! I'm seeing a problem with spheres (could be any curved surface) generally though
Using
0.50 for the first time (a great improvement on the materials and many other fronts @aoktar, great work!). I'm on
Win 7 x 64 too but on
R13. Here's what I've done to reproduce the "spheres" bug. I have no idea if this is connected to the instance bug or if it's separate but here goes:
nb. using the primitives from the C4D menu and no materials or lighting. Wanted to keep this as basic as I could.
Cube test:
Open new Untitled scene
Insert a cube into scene
Open Octane Plugin Live Viewer
Result= cube renders fine in Live viewer
Set Picture Viewer render engine from C4D Standard to "Octane Render"
Render in Picture Viewer
Result = cube renders fine in C4D Picture Viewer
Make a single instance of the cube, move it away so we can see them both,
Open Octane Plugin Live Viewer
Result= cube and instanced cube render fine in Live viewer
Check "render instance" for the instanced cube
Render in Picture Viewer
Result= cube and instanced cube render fine in C4D Picture viewer
Close all scenes.
Now for a sphere.....
Sphere test:
Open new Untitled scene
Insert a sphere into scene
Open Octane Plugin Live Viewer
Result= sphere renders fine in Live viewer
Set Picture Viewer render engine from C4D Standard to "Octane Render"
Render in Picture Viewer
Result = nothing appears in C4D Picture Viewer - something is happening (render time counts up from 0:00) but screen is pure black.
Close all scenes
Open new Untitled scene
Insert a sphere into scene
Make one instance of the sphere and move it apart. Leave "render instance" unchecked.
Open Octane Plugin Live Viewer
Result= sphere and instanced sphere renders fine in Live viewer
Check "render instance" for the instanced sphere
Render in Picture Viewer
Result= Application Error Crash!
So..... cubes can be instanced and rendered using Picture Viewer fine but a sphere can't even be rendered on it's own.
Hope this helps @aoktar in the bug finding process!
p.s. Does anyone know if 0.49 does this? If not I'll reinstall that version for now.
