1. Will we be able to tweak materials once they are imported from the mtl file?
Yes, you can tweak the Octane materials for OBJ proxy objects, and those materials are saved with the Rhino scene.
2. Do you intend on letting us assign materials for referenced obj's like in standalone?
Not sure I understand this question - same as 1)? You can edit the Octane material for a proxy OBJ in the plugin. Just "material pick" the material in the Viewport, or select the host object.
3. Will we be able to import material macros from standalone?
Not currently possible, but may be in the future. Ideally materials could be interchanged between all the plugins and Standalone, but this will require new functionality in the Octane API.

Hi, I'm not sure if this has already been addressed or if I missed it, but I'm having an issue whenever I hideswap. Also entering and exiting the block edit command. After I have opened an octane viewport rhino runs basically normally this is the only time I notice a problem. When I hideswap, the program hangs and in the octane tab, the plugin cycles through the names of the materials in the model...

Even if I close the octane viewport this persists until I close and reopen the rhino file. Is there any way to stop this?

Im running on win7 64bit with one quadro 4000 shared between octane and my display on low priority.

Thanks! The plugins working great otherwise!

Also, is there a way to make shutlining and edge softening etc work in the plugin?

Thanks!

I've noticed this exact same thing. Makes hiding take MUCH longer.

This is a bug - I will fix this today and post an update on this thread. Thanks for reporting it.

I have been unable to reproduce this issue. Can you pls provide a specific step-by-step process that I can follow in order to reproduce the problem?

Thanks

Hi,

Well I'm working with a pretty simple model, maybe 10 textures assigned by layer mostly. I've mostly used rhino conversions and a couple of live db materials. I do have a lot of rhino blocks in the model if that makes a difference.

Also on a side note, nested blocks within blocks in rhino dont seem to appear in the octane view, I had to explode the nested ones.

Everything works fine until I click the open viewport button. After that even with the viewport closed, if I use the hideswap command Rhino hangs while the plugin dropdown "selection materials" under the materials tab will then change to all the materials in the model, once its gone through them all it swaps the geometry in rhino, then it happens again when I hideswap again... usually hangs up the program for 10 seconds or so each time.

Not sure what else is cauing it, it could be the blocks. Also I am using this STABLE release not the newest one you've posted.

Hi there,

Could anyone share the best method of scattering Octane proxies? Just don't really get how to generate CSV file in Rhino.

Many thanks in advance.

I haven't tried it myself - but the addin detailed at http://render.otoy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=23430 is intended for generating csv scatter files from Rhino instances. I would love to hear peoples experiences with this.

Yes - that is true. The block instance is a placeholder (host) for the instance and nested blocks cannot currently be used as a host.

I'm still not able to reproduce the problem. I need your specific workflow (keys pressed, buttons pressed, menu commands) for reproducing. Perhaps send me your Rhino save file, and then the actual keys/menu commands to see to problem. Would also be worth you downloading and installing the latest version of the plugin - then we will both be on the same version.

Sounds good, I need to head out for the day, but I will get something together for you soon. The model I'm having the issue with now is a bit confidential but I will find one that reproduces it. Also I might just need the new update, I'll install it shortly.

Thanks!
