As a Blender user I'm also disappointed that the future of a Blender plug-in is stark, however the standalone is still great and I WAY prefer it over Cycles. I guess I'll just have to use Cycles to fill in the gaps of what Octane can't do.

Hi all,

On behalf the OTOY team I just would like to thank everyone for the warm reception of the release. We were definitely getting a little bit nervous when we made the plunge. It has been a very long development and also quite a learning experience for us, but I think it was about time to finish the beta phase.

And I really would like to thank everyone who has been supporting us and the project, with bug reports, requests, helping other users, writing export plugins, reviewing the manual and last but not least rendering awesome images. We realize that this is all voluntary work and that, without the help of you users, the project wouldn't be where it is now, because we would never be able to provide all that only by ourselves. Very much appreciated :D

Happy rendering,
Marcus

That's exactly what I plan to do. Maybe we will get Octane integrated into Blender some day, but Octane will always lag behind Cycles in some fields (or lack them entirely). At the same time Cycles wont have some features that Octane has. No reasons to completely dismiss either.

Anyway, congratulations are in order. Happy v1.0, Octaneers! :)

(now lets do a competition :D )

Cycles is slow compared Octane render. But Octane render lacks some features that Octane has - granted Octane is directed to ArchViz and not rendering smoke.

Please can an official Octane guy tell me what's what with the animation import?

I don't see animation import listed for 1.0 but I see now that 1.x will be free to 1.0 users.
So does that mean such features will come in a 1.x release?

I don't mind waiting and I'm pleased you got it out the door, but I'm still curious how long it could be before we can import animation. What attracted me about having it native in the program was that every surface and rendering feature would be available to the animation. Plug-ins are cool (and appreciated), but I doubt they're any match for what a built-in animation import would allow.

Surface everything on the first frame, and off you go at Octane-Speed, I was really looking forward to that!

Hi -- Congrats Otoy!

I am very interested in Octane, but can not seem to find anywhere if the current 1.0 release does indeed include a Lightwave scene export plug... I could swear that on one page of the old site it said LW export plug was part of purchased beta version.. now, at the bottom of the Features page on this new site, LW plug is mysteriously missing.. please tell me this bad-boy has LW scene export -- so I can actually use Octane.. until Juanjo has his stuff ready.

Congratulations to you all... All developers, the community and everybody who got involved somehow...

Happy Birthday OCTANE...

Core dev team... You did a great job... Congratulations... Keep running mates...

And for the guys who is yelling, complaining about "Octane in Blender". I`m sorry for them, because it is a PEBKAC...
I am running Octane from Blender, really well, without any error (just a few issues in Linux but no probs in windullz)...
Follow the guides, read more, you`ll solve...
Ask yourself first, before blaming the others...

Congratulations ...
