It is a GTX 980Ti, newest driver, newest OS.

Update:
Sorry, this occurs when rendering on internal GPU, and this is a GTX 680MX.
If I render on external GPU I only get 4 or 5 kernel panics in month without these artifacts.

Do you overclock any of your hardware - cpu, gpu? What are temps on them under full load?

No. The internal GPU of the Mac is as is, nothing modified. And the eGPU is a Gainward GeForce GTX 980Ti Phoenix, nothing modified too.

So you are using a laptop? This might be insufficient power (ghz, not voltage) of your cpu. I might be mistaken, but freezing is mainly due to overloading of cpu or gpu.

The issue is on the internal GPU of the iMac. And this is a GTX 680MX.

I have written something about this in an earlier post, before I was purchasing Octane: viewtopic.php?f=25&t=49885

No, I am using an iMac 27", 3,4 GHz Intel Core i7, late 2012, 32 GByte of RAM, newest driver, newest OS.

I get you. I read your post and all the issues you posted (heavy distortions) look like a faulty gpu that handles the display. I have no knowledge on imacs but some time ago I flashed bios on my gpus (not mobo) whlie having similar issues. IS there any chance to replace 680mx with any other gpu and test it?

There is nothing flashed or modified. All things are original. Only the driver is installed from Nvidia.
The GPU is a chip soldered on the main board: https://de.ifixit.com/Teardown/iMac+Int ... down/17828
