we have partners and developers that need months to build on top of v3 prior to release. It's not a secret at that point. We provide a public roadmap every year at GTC.

I think this is not the case. We have a stable working version and the Otoy Dev´s and coders doing a fantastic job here, so there is no need to become unfair now!

I personally wish that the Otoy Team takes all the time they need to give us a "WORKING" and stable release of V 3.0,
instead of rushing thru the code and producing some crappy stuff, like many other Software Vendors do these days!

But, thats just my 2 Cents...
Thanks man. The devs really are doing incredible work on V3.

we would like to see some screenshots of 3.0 ported on the various host programs.
Teasers are good things.
We got several Star Wars trailers....:)

Life on Earth won't stop if Otoy doesn't deliver by the end of the year. It's just that I will be disappointed
(by this company and not by the developers and coders as I'm sure are doing a great job).

This is still on the news section :
"OTOY will be inviting select users to participate in the alpha release of OctaneRender 3 this summer, with a full release slated for the second half of this year."

I can wait. All I need is a stable working plugin integration with easy migration.

Hi all,

Here is my last update regarding v3 alpha with these main changes since my previous update:

- PMC can be used via network rendering again.
- Deep pixel rendering can be used via network rendering again.
- We added the possibility to mix two data channels in one volume to drive absorption, scattering, emission and density, which is important if you want to render effects like fire with smoke.
- The file name attribute of the volume node can be animated, allowing the definition of a sequence of OpenVDB files as animation. Unfortunately there is no GUI implemented yet, but this will be done soon.
- Overhauled the environment medium since the first implementation didn't work so well.
- Added interactive camera rotation around the camera position in the Standalone viewport.
- Lots and lots of bug fixes.

We are still working on fixing an issue in the PMC kernel, but I think that should be done on Monday. Today we also implemented a replacement of OpenMP, which is not available on OSX but is really important for blending results in the film buffer.

-> We plan to do one more test release for the plugin devs on Monday and if there are no show stoppers, we will release v3 alpha 1 a couple of days later, most likely next week.

Region rendering will still be broken, but that's what we will attack next. After that more new features.

I hope, that clears up some question marks :)
