A suggestion if I may: Check out some of the Guilty Gear gameplay videos on Youtube featuring Potemkin. This model might look really good with highly stylized/abstract lighting and volumetric effects.

Yeah, looks way better.
You also might want to take a look at the work Rikk the Gaijin did as well as TonySculptor and WiltPapier for a comparison.

Also: kayze's skin shader is not too too bad if you plug in color, epidermal, subdermal and bump/normal for quick and dirty results.

Tony's skin shader looks awesome but I wasn't able to get it to work out of the box - wiltpapier's is easier to get going.
