If you try your scene in Standalone version.. it's more fast and has more quality render.. try.. I don't know because.. Is it not possible use 3DSmax 2013 with standalone throught export plugin?
Having done more tests I can say that the 3.01 renders better than the 3.00.
In 3ds Max if we copy-->instance many copies of the same objects we get instances...:)
In theory making flat all instances we will get better performances, this is valid for scenes with few objects.
Is not possible to have a kernel that disables instances. We requested this feature for one year...:) (instances)
Then, as Marcus said in another post, all the new Octane features will slow down a little bit the performances but we get more features.

Regarding quality, for example caustics, light distribution, shadows, I don't think that exist differences between Octane standalone and Octane for Max. The quality is the same and recognizable in every render posted in the Gallery.
Probably, for the fact that in Max we have more realtime controls over all parameters, we get slight lower speed and much noise (because the speed)

Why export from Max to Octane standalone? Imagine a complex scene with characters animations, instanced geometries, dynamics, keyframed shaders...

Mix material is not working.
2nd material always renders white.

Do you use old GPU 2xx? It isn't supported in this version.
