Oh wow...

I thought that the twitter link Goldorak posted was kind of empty since it didn't answer any questions, but I didn't look closely enough to realize it was from a month old tweet.

That is almost beyond belief. Why don't we have information and communication from Otoy more meaningful than this?
We rely on 3rd party developers to provide customer support/feedback on a regular basis for the software they are offering through our store.

That being said, we are ultimately responsible for your satisfaction and are fully invested in the success of this software.

We will make sure communication regarding the road map is more frequent and consistent - at least every few weeks, if not more often, until it is out of beta.
I guess it's safe to infer that the plugin won't be out of beta for at least some months if the current plan is to communicate about the roadmap every few weeks. The two main things I hope to hear about when some information is shared are:
  • - very roughly when is the final release expected (two months, six months, a year)?
  • - will there be another pre-release in the meantime, and if so roughly when should we expect to get access to it?

... and that's why I still do not have download link (in your store BTW) for what I have paid for 9 months ago - for my satisfaction.

Anyone reading this forum could make a collection of promises about 'better communication'. Well, actually it's also sort of communications... :)

Using the OR standalone, Daz plugin, and now iRay (for about a month), it definitely feels like the Daz Octane plugin is the neglected child. I actually agree with previous posts that your knowledge of Octane takes down the learning curve for the Daz Iray. I find its a lot of fun to use Iray as it gives you some great renders all inside the Daz universe.

But looking at the other side if the coin, as much as I like the Iray inclusion, it is much, much slower than Octane Render. Even if you dedicate Cuda cores strictly for rendering like you would in OR...what the heck. Even with sloppy support and crashes, the OR plugin will hands down get the job done faster. Maybe Iray will get faster, but until that time I see superior power in the OR plugin.

So to the developers if the Daz OR plugin, whoever the heck you are, I myself could care less about getting communications on what you are working on. Just surprise us all with an updated plugin that incorporates all the new features planned for OR3, and leave Iray in the dust. I mean, come on...take pride in the power...show us that power. Kick that weak OR wannabe Iray down to the ground and render a big "F U" on top of it.

I agree with your comment.

Comparing like for like (as much as that's possible) in my tests OcDS is about 10% faster than iRAY as others have also confirmed so unless v3 has huge speed optimisations then I'd rather have a working v2 now than wait many more months for v3. The v3 standalone hasn't even been released yet. What improvements is v3 going to offer apart from apparently sharing scenes with other software?

Oh, how sweet.
I used to be like you, with all faith and hope.

It's so easy to say "I like the Octane plugin way more, let's show everyone what it can do, and this is going to be awesome!!"
We'll see if you say that still after waiting a year, with rarely a word on the progress from the people making the claims on how great it will be, and still have no working plugin.

I agree. And now that most of DS users have experienced PBR with Iray I even see a new market for others PBR like Octane Render. It's now up to OTOY to develop a plugin that truly brings improvements (speed, true real time viewport, features...) in comparison to Iray and I'm sure that some users will allow to pay for the extra values.

It's safe to say that everybody in these forums wants to see a finished and fully functional OcDS. If OcDS was as stable as Iray, that would be great. I'd love having two renderers for DAZ that I could count on. We haven't gotten an update to the beta in six months though, and t_3 the developer has been completely silent for three months, despite pages upon pages of users' ignored requests for a status update building up a froth of negativity and bitterness in the forum.

It's gotten to where the only activity on the OcDS forum now is customers complaining about being ignored, and remaining completely ignored. A representative from Otoy came in finally yesterday to say communication is supposed to be t_3's responsibility, but they'll make sure it will improve. But no information has been shared yet. Basic info about a release schedule for the product people have paid for remains secret. This all leads some of us to think that there is no schedule and perhaps no real plan for finishing the plugin, for all we know no one is even working on it.

Yeah I'm happy to hear from the devs, and can't help being a little hopeful now.
Especially since there's an implied deadline for info now.
