Good question.
But if Autodesk was really the reason we wouldn't see the DAZ 3D beta plugin.
They said we would see the Maya plugin in a few weeks when they made the post for beta testing. Now it's a few months since then. My guess is that they have a shitload of work atm and are migrating the team with Otoyo's Devs so the development of the plugins is on hold for the moment.

Blackstar -aka 'at2'- is not interested in doing the plugin I'm afraid, as they already have a similar
product around, in which they seem to have committed pretty heavily, and made for Nvidia's Mental Ray, RS
real competitor.
We don't know the details, but it must be pretty rough for RS to build software around Cuda, knowing there's an obvious conflict of interests in many levels.

How is Mental Ray RS's real competitor, what about Maxwell or Arion instead? nVidia owns Mental Ray, but they also surely want Octane to succeed because it is the only Cuda exclusive render engine, nVidia is shifting most of the Cuda power behind Quadro and Tesla, that means a crap load of cash flowing in if Octane becomes the next big thing.
I hadn't heard that Blackstar wasn't taking anymore big jobs right now. Also, correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that at2 is just one of several studios Blackstar owns.

I said Nvidia, not Mental Ray, Nvidia is MUCH bigger than those you mentioned, more so when they develop Cuda
and own Mental Ray and iRay. What Nvidia is interested in is IRAY to be successful, which is GPU based just like Octane.
At2 is the main company, Blackstar being where they host their many c4D plugins and custom development stuff, it appears...
I contacted them directly and asked them, and this is what they told me:
'
[...] Usually, we’ll do all sorts of plugins that are proposed to us. Unfortunately, it won’t be Octane – for a simple reason: We already have developed iray for Cinema 4D, which comes bundled in our product “m4d – mental ray and iray for Cinema 4D” (www.m4d.info). iray is also an unbiased pathtrace renderer [...]' and goes on and so forth... really nice people i must say.

hi all,
Proupin wrote:plugins are developed by 3rd parties, the problem must be finding someone who can/wants to develop a plugin for C4D
This is very true.
As much as we would like to provide everyone with an official plugin at the soonest possible time, we also have to safeguard our SDK. This is the one of the many purposes of our plugin development contract. We found that most of the c4d plugin devs that we've approached so far are in fact already 'taken'. Same with those who have approached us, often the devs have significant ties with a competing product. Even with the formality of a non-disclosure agreement, these ties may still conflict with the terms. As with any company, we reserve the right to place our SDK with the right contractor.
For our c4d enthusiasts, our plans to develop a c4d plugin is still on. The only question is the 'when'

I'm very keen on doing the plugin and I will start as soon as time allows. I hope that will be only a matter of a couple of weeks.
Cheers,
Marcus
