I know it has been mentioned, but I am also getting a very pronounced sheen, by default, on all materials.
Also, just generally getting a lot of freezes/crashes with this version.
R20
Mac Pro 5,1
2x Nvidia Titan X
OSX 10.13.6

CUDA driver 410.130
Nvidia driver 387.10.10.10.40.113

I've fixed the missing uninitialised parameter condition. I'm waiting for completion of some other fixes.
Can I get a crash report pls and some details about that? Bugreport.zip

Welcome to the new Otoy licensing system.

Beppe

explain, when the maintenance period will end the user will not be able to fully use your plugin?

RS can fully use it when the maintenance license is over.
RS's locked license is including one year of maintenance. You can download any versions in this one year period, after that it's 250$ for continuing the maintenance.
Otoy offered a free upgrade for V3 users for V4 if you remember. Did you pay for upgrade for V4?
i have RS and i know it.

As far as I know backward compatibility in Octane is not planned. Files created in v5 and higher will not open in v4.

user trapped.))

Interesting thoughts! I don't know any backward compatibility problems, of course you can't expect to use a feature of V5 in V4. What are you about mentioning, for example?

"of course you can't expect to use a feature of V5 in V4" - I understand it.

"backward compatibility" - most likely this information was on FB JU (I do not remember exactly)

You assume that problems with loading the scene will not. Will only the new features of the updated version of the plugin be unavailable?

I am ready to pay an annual subscription, but the user should have the current full working version.

like this done in RS/cycles4d.

In Octane, you roll back a lot.

very sad

WG its like that in every engine, including RS. every few versions the backward compatibility is breaking in some sort or another. it happened several times in RS as well

Trying to understand your point. Do you wish that all team of company work without income? You can still use V4 without paying anything forever. This is my opinion.
And asking or criticizing the company policy to plugin developers or support guys that will not make any sense. We don't decide how things work.

Also I don't understand what you say about backward compatibility! Please give some example of what kind of hardness you have.

You do not understand me.

let's say you paid 2-3 years annual subscription. and you had a "full" octane V10

what happens when the octane subscription period ends and for various reasons you cannot temporarily pay further?

the user does not have a perpetual license for V10.
he will only have v4.

In other renderers (RS / Cycles4d), you still have the perpetual license of the version on which the paid service stopped

again

I am ready to pay an annual subscription, but the user should have the current full working version.

I'm not saying that you came up with this licensing system.

I say that it is at least strange.

OK I see your point and you're right. I'll forward this topic to Jules.
