Damn, i have slightly lower score (257-259) on my brand new X99 based rig, but i have 2 1080s (Evga FTW)....and actually OCed to 2113 MHz! What the hell, any idea why so low in my case? Disappointing, might as well bought 2 1070s and saved lot of money.

Don't trust this benchmark - it gives very misleading results. Compare real scene on different machine.

well,

i must confess i'm a bit surprised, if not disappinted, about the benchmark results i am seeing here while browsing this thread.

due to upcoming workload i have been thinking about some investments in gfx hardware and was considering 1070 oder 1080 - having read about the 1070 being not tooooooo much slower than the 1080 while being quite a bit cheaper, i have been tending towards two additional 1070's for 1 additional node oder 4 add. 1070's for 2 add. nodes to invest in.

my current setup uses 2*980ti (Asus Strix-GTX980TI-DC3OC-6GD5), both of them are set to "gaming mode" - since i am not in oc myself, i just don't touch those settings, but leave them as they were, when i built them in.

with this setup in use the score in the official benchmark showed around 265, here and there 2 or 3 point more or less.
now, this "new" benchmark i today found in the first post of this thread even shows scores varying while 268 being the minimum and 285 the maximum - i went for 5 benachmarkrounds. see screenshot.

now i am wondering, if it would make sense to invest in any of those 10xx-cards at all, when the numbers seems oddly similar, even smaller with the 1070?!
this comes as quite a surprise.

probably the 980ti still is the best shot, keeping budget in mind?
(i have to add that, when i bought those mentioned 980ti's this early summer they were at 500€ (incl. vat in germany), about 10 days after i bought them, they became more expensive and now seem to be at around 600€. no idea, why.)

On Amazom.de STRIX 980Ti ( score 109 ) is the same price as STRIX 1080 ( score 134 ) but it has more RAM and draws less power and it is a newer model. So I bought two of these to see how it goes.

Is anyone running 4x1070s with just air cooling? Any trouble?

Also, can someone help me weed through all the different editions of the 1070?

I ran 3x 1070 founders edition + 1genTitan
The 1070's behaved very great even the ones in the middle were around 68C temps. at load for prolonged time. (with OC and MSI afterburner custom fan curves)
Cards idling at 28C-35C depending on ambient temp.

I have a moderate ventilated case cosmos II
