Thank you for pointing this out.
I'm just a little worried about the stuff in red letters though (Experimental, and performance is not at the level we expect)...
I'm more conflicted now between getting GTX 1080s (more power but non-guaranteed performance) or the GTX 980 Tis (less power but tested and known performance)... why is it always like that when trying to upgrade a PC
For the record I will upgrade the CPU to the new i7 9650x (Deca-core) and the RAM to 64 GB but it is the Graphics cards that I am so confused about... I know I know... I should be patient and wait for proper support for GTX 1080 and then we can see the actual performance and make a sound judgement.
But you see my problem is that patience is not a virtue of mine, (please consider that I have been waiting for at least 2 years to upgrade)
So if you were as impatient as I am, what would you do?... I'm open to suggestions even those involving other GPU components (as long as the price is reasonable not as crazy as the TITAN Z or TITAN X),
Thanks,

Really eager to see what the GTX 1080 is capable of. Thinking of getting one GTX 1080 hybrid or two GTX 980 ti hybrids

,
Despite the lack of known performance you're still getting more video Ram with the 1080s. I've hit the limit with my 980Ti cards a few times when working with large scenes (CAD conversions) in C4D.

Will GTX 1080 support be available for Octane plugins (C4D, Maya, etc...) at the same time as the Standalone version?

Yes, as soon as the plugin developers release their plugins with version 3.03.2, the plugins shall have support for Pascal cards.
cheers,
Thomas

Hi Team,
I can't provide any meaningful benchmark data, but I've just changed out a couple of my GTX970's for some GTX1070's with no problems so far.
The Rendering with Octane on the 1070's is noticeably faster and I no longer have to micromanage by ArchVis scenes around my VRAM like I was previously doing on some of our larger projects.
I'm using the ArchiCAD Plugin.
Looking forward to seeing how much faster the Dev team can get Octane running on these cards.
Cheers, Dan.

Can you maybe render same frame with single 970 and then repeat process with 1070 ? That will give us pretty good indication how much % is faster.
Thanks

I've just done a COMPLETELY UNSCIENTIFIC TEST comparing the Titan Z (single processor), 780 6gb, 980ti and 1080 (display card).
On the same frame (simple geo with heavy displacement) the scores were:
TITAN Z (Single processor) - 4min51s
780 6gb - 5min10sec
980ti - 2min47
1080 (being used as display card) - 2min53
So there you go, some initial numbers. Be interesting to see how it goes when things are more optimised!
