Too bad, can´t become a message if someone had posted a reply, so sorry for the late reply.
Yes, that would be a solution, but i don´t like to export the vdb to disk and load it again to render it.
The first experiment i have done is realy simple, it converts a polymesh to a volume or level set and write it to disk.
So i can load it into Octane/Houdini to watch the results.
What i have seen, in Octane all VDB´s are volumes, in Houdini, it depends on the GridClass::GRID_FOG_VOLUME or GridClass::GRID_LEVEL_SET and if a sdfToFogVolume is made.
So i think there is no need to do a double conversation for Octane, if the level set looks the same as the volume...

Yes some updates.
The volumes are nearly finished. Have spend much time to displace a vdb grid.
But now i think it looks ok.

Now i must make the ice nodes userfriendly and add the vdb port inside the plugin.
Also a load vdb node must be included.
