Throughout the years I have learned that programs still can behave strangely if you use any other than US ASCII characters (in my case Finnish ä,ö). So I always use a,o instead, it is totally readable and works 100% sure. Of course cyrillic is more complicated to work around like that but I wouldn't use non US ASCII even in LW.
Sorry that this does not help you in any way but I just wanted to tell you that you are not alone with this problem

The next plugin release is going to support extended ASCII characters (ISO 8859-1) in the surface names. Not a full UTF-8 support, but it is better than nothing. There are some localization problems in the LightWave SDK, some functions returns plain ASCII characters, and other UTF-8 strings, and this is the root of the problem.

There are some great russian sites with arch viz models to buy which I often need so cyrillic letters can creep into some of the surface names and then I have to hunt them down. It is alright because I know what crashes Octane ( this is the only way I can crash LW+Octane, meaning it is a very stable combination, good job boys ) but for someone who doesn't know this it could become a nightmare.

Oh sorry I didn't think it that way, of course

Hi Juanjo,
I've just tried to run the latest 2.2 beta, however Octane will not run. It cannot authenticate the license, even though it is and has only ever been used on one machine. It works fine if I revert to the production version, which made me think there may be an issue with the beta (XP).

What error exactly do you get?
You could try logging into the customer area and clicking deactivate next to your licenses. This should free them up for reactivation.

Thanks, I'll give that a go. It seems odd, I have never had to release a license before when upgrading the LW version.

Octane will need to contact the licensing server again when you run a new version, so if your offline it's normal to have problems. Otherwise yeah, it's not normal, it should contact the licensing server in the background and just work (like you have experienced on your other updates).

Ok, I've been online so it can contact the server. Thanks for the replies.
