Hi Asher,
Thanks for sharing! Using splitters I presume? Your signature reports you're on Win 7(64) so did you install this on a different rig? Did it not work on Win 7?

yes pcie splitters.

windows 7 does not allow you to do a "hardware profile" ( xp yes ) before booting.
win 7 forces installations of HD audio drivers, per gpu, each one using one pcie lane from the cpu and motherboard...( dont confuse a pcie lane with a slot on the motherboard )

if anyone leards how to stop win 7 to install hd audio drivers per gpu please enlight me.

xp with that motherboard had another issue, it would not install ANY nvidia driver without first runing a driver wipe-out utility and then install on safe mode.

( xp also wanted to install hd audio drivers but it was controlled by me, win 7 is very undemocratic.

This is an odd question. I currently have a gtx780, upgrading to a gtx690...but have my eye on a tesla M2090. The questions are (1) will the gtx690 and M2090 play nicely with each other? (2) will there be any appreciable gain in performance having the additional GPU's brought into play by the M2090? (2) Should I just buy another gtx690?

Isn't 690 as fast as 780 (780 Ti)? Why do you think about tesla - do you need double precision?

My bad, I read some misinformation that claimed the M2090 had 12 GPU's but only 512 CUDA processors...If that were true, then I was wondering if the resources would be shared so that there would be 14 GPU with a total of ~3500 CUDA processors. Can't believe everything you read.

Honestly, I don't know what I need. I just want something that K.A. which is affordable. Some of these older cards are coming down in price so you can more bang for the buck.

as far as the 780 vs 690, the 690 benches about 10% better...not much but I'll take it.

If 3gb vram is fine for you get 780 (780 ti). If 6gb - titan (black, Z) or so hard to get 780 6gb. 980 is close to 780 in Octane and has 4gb and draws less power.

GTX 690 are two loder GPUS of ONLY 2G each. so you do not get 4G!!! pat attention.
Octane will see a gtx 690 as two gpus of 2G of ram

The Titan Z is two 780 of 6G each, not even OC.

both Titan Z and 690 have overheating issues.

You're right for the first part =), but..

TitanZ is closer to two TitanBlacks in terms of core count, available DP, etc

& where from You got overheating issues?

Z is going to drop it's performance a bit as so TBlack does,
but they are not overheating =) unless You don't have enough airflow..
(Z dumps half heat output back to the case..)

Z do overheat. One fan for two two gpus. The average 780 or 980 has 3 fans per gpu.

what i mean is that if you have one pwr box ok, but stacked? no way, unless you watercool of course.

GPU PCBs tend also to bend from heating and cooling ( on and off computer ) unless there is a backplate. The board gets bent, soldering points get damaged.
