you need to activate the "fake shadow" option in the proper tab in the attribute editor for letting the sun goes through the specular material, and activate the "alpha shadow" option in the kernel setting ;)
ciao beppe
Thanks bepeg4d,

I will try this solution tonight.

What version of Octane Standalone should I have installed with this beta version of the Cinema 4D plugin? Or does it even matter?

Aoktar,

0.5.7 worked fine except for the "combed" histogram and memory leak.

However, no joy at all with 0.5.9 here :( Every time I try to add a material from the LiveDB it crashes C4D, also if I use an octane material I already have locally and apply it to a cube and then try to start a render it crashes C4D.

It will render a cube without a material on though?

Back to 0.5.0 for me...!!

@aoktar - I did the test discussed in the 0.5 thread... So, I reduced the number of big textures and eliminated one element with dense mesh deformed by a bend deformer...and then everything has gone well. It's not a great deal but at least a good starting point for a good dev ;)

That's not fully correct: You don't have to install the standalone at all. You just need a standalone license. If you never ran the standalone before you installed the plugin, a standalone license dialog will pop up when the plugin tries to authenticate the plugin license. In this dialog you can enter the standalone license.

Cheers,
Marcus

Yes, if you are working on Mac OS and were using Octane standalone, but didn't update the standalone to any of the recent release candidates it may be that you have to de-activate and then re-activate your standalone license. That's because the machine identification has slightly changed to solve a problem with Mac Pros which have two identical Ethernet adapters.

The de-activation and re-activation can be done via the our web interface on http://render.otoy.com/account/octanelive.php

No need to install the standalone version.
