the only thing to do is in the image i attached.
remove the outer blue ring (as the red line indicates, eg cut on the red line)
then, the yellow line, make that a little less long,
so reduce the diameter of that grey plastic a bit
say 66% of what's it now.
then it will be perfect.
then, add some text on the grey plastic just like on the luxball which is here:
http://www.luxrender.net/forum/viewtopi ... =13&t=1383
(i made that scene btw)
just add some rounded text on the grey plastic foot piece,
say 'octane preview - 4x4cm grid'.
replace 4x4cm grid with the actual length of the grid cells of the floor...
i think with those done we should be set.
if you can post a final version and mail me one or post a link so i don't forget (i'm gonna be VERY busy coding tomorrow on the MLT),
we can get it finished so i can include it in octane.

Ok here's another choice
First one is the old one you don't like
Second one is without the slope, it also touch the ground
(edit: just seen the above post by you Radiance, what you want is number 2 but with the same ammount of round top and bottom right?)
Third one is like second one but not touching the ground (like the maxwel(censored) one

)

Well you just draw number two
I think number 3 is great for one reason, you can see caustic from the ring to the ground and also when making emmiting materials like LED light material you can look how it illuminate the ground.
Its your choice

Anyway here's a test with number 3 (so everyone happy

)
Ok on the left the old model
On the right the modification based on what you said
so reduce the diameter of that grey plastic a bit
say 66% of what's it now.
Its exactly reduced by 66% the rounded border radius doesn't changed
But look at the yellow line, in the old one the yellow line is straight
On the new one its not
Do you want me to push the green profile like the red arrow show to make the yellow line straight ?
Or do I leave it like that ?
Another thing, here's a screenshot from topview
Material sphere in yellow, outer ring in white
Just for you to see that the outer ring is not-so-much-too-much-wide
Edit: Gonna sleep now so no updates until tommorow
I think it will be all finished this week-end but im not the only one working on this (thanks Chris again for the help) so Im not sure

Okay, last update for tonight.
Footpiece and floorgrid changed.
No normal smoothing on the blue material because of mesh error.
Good night.
