I don't hear any coil noise (maybe because I have titan as a primary graphics card) and an external usb sound card connect to a front usb panel.

what clock and mem speed do you have?
PS actually on 2.1 overclocked titan scores 8.5 (same as 780 6gb), +200 core, +500 mem.
Stock clocks, just the power target raised to 106%

I saw post on redshift forum from creator of redshift about performance of GTX 970.
"The reason for the slowdown appears to be driver-related (with a possibility that the Windows driver model is responsible)."
But after bypass they say that speed of GTX 970 is the same as K6000 or even faster. So there is still hope for these cards.

@schodt it might be good for them =) they have user base & 20+ plugins =) if they make this happen - wide adoption & prices would rise, more & more people might start using their upcoming cloud option to cut prices & avoid costly investigations on hardware - getting resources as they needed =) that might bring OTOY good income as they go. For the end user it's also a pluss, as You get the result as fast as possible (but You can charge extra for fast delivery) & spend time working on other projects..- so it's hard to say..
but in the end I do agree it's not as safe as having at least couple of players making compatible hardware that You can use to run Your software =)

Well I'm just doing the math here (considering a 970 or a 780)
So.. what is the difference betwen the two in terms of bang for buck?
970 = 970 3.43 M/sec PT no alphashadows
780 is about what? 5? So I make that to be 1.45 times faster.
That means at about $380 for a 970 you get the same performance per dollar as a 780 if a 780 costs 1.45 x $380 = $551.00 $551. Which is about what the 780 costs (for new full priced cards in Canada any ways).
So I think I'm still going to buy a 970 given that it's relatively cheap and I can maybe expect some performance improvements once the new architecture is better coded for in the future.

yeah, but there is 2Gb extra vRam & for some that's a must =).. so even if the speed is the same, You're loosing on capacity, that might shorten usable lifetime of the cards as scenes will just get bigger & bigger, clients might ask higher resolutions, models more detailed, etc.

780 is much faster - in 2.1 is 8.5, not 5, substantial difference

I'm very seriously thinking of getting a 970. I'm just a hobbyist so I don't have any kind of clients (just me) or time schedules. That and all I have right now is a 2GB 460, so the 970 will be probably 3 to 4 times faster, double the memory, use less power, and at $330 it's a price I can justify.

That's great that there is such a large jump in 2.1 compared with previous versions.
I wonder, though, what is the jump on the 970? Is it just as much?
IF it is just as much then the math I did still works and it's still worthwhile.

Maxwell based cards slow down by almost 50% with scenes with displacements.
So the benchmarks tested are using displacements?
Otoy just need to optimize the code for the new cards.
