Why can't the new plugin automatically assign materials (or translate DAZ materials) as if the old DAZ project is a new one? Has the previous plugin version attached files to older DAZ projects which the new plugin can't override? IOW has the previous plugin version contaminated all the DAZ projects that were opened in its viewport?
I mean all the changes to materials the user did using the Octane Plugin materials tab. So if you open a scene that was created using old version of the plugin where you had all the materials set and adjusted, then in the new version the octane plugin simply discards those data and just auto creates materials from the default DAZ materials applied to the objects in the scene.

But new version of the Plugin, which is going to be released when it is ready is supposed to have a built in convertor that should recognize those old scenes and convert the plugin data into new format.

Ok, thanks I understand now. I could update the plugin and probably still open nearly all my old projects and the ones that don't open correctly can wait for the next update.

Just make sure you save them as new files after you open them in the new plugin version as it destroys the old plugin data in he scene.

Thanks, that's a good suggestion. When I save them as new I'll add 'v12' so I don't forget.

Is it possible to revert to an earlier version of the plugin and open the pre v1.2 DAZ files as normal?

Presuming you didn't go to through the steps to set up a second DAZ install: I'm nearly positive uninstalling the plugin, and then re-installing the old one should work (and while you have the plugin uninstalled would probably be a good time to install a second version of DAZ, possibly even one without the plugin at all, as a backup). Just make sure you don't overwrite your newer versioned files.

Oh! And if you're super cautious, you could always test one of the oldies out and save it with another file name, just to be sure it's working as expected. I would.

You do not have to uninstall/install DAZ. All it takes (at least on Windows) is to simply copy the whole folder to a different location (preferably two locations) and remove the plugin completely from one and installing an older version to the other. Then you will have 3 instances of DAZ Studio all sharing same content library and you will be able to select which one you want to run.

Personally I'm using the new plugin as it is much more stable. The negative is, that I have many projects that are now on hold as they have been prepared in the old version and I do not want to have to make the surfaces, camera and light setup all over again in the new plugin. So I'm waiting for an updated version of the plugin which should contain a converter for old scenes...

Perhaps my wording was off, since you just corrected me to agree with me, birdovous. Regardless, as long as that makes it clear for you Spectralis, hopefully you'll be off on the right foot.

Thank you both. I'll experiment with two versions of the plugin. I hope too that the next plugin version with a converter is released soon.

I've installed v1.2. Everything is working fine except that the daylight environment doesn't match the earlier version of the plugin. I wrote down all the environment settings from the earlier version of my scene but when I input the environment settings in the latest version of the plugin they don't match images I made with the earlier version plugin. I've tried to tweak the settings but I can't seem to get rid of a slightly yellow tint to the indoor scene. I'm trying to emulate fluorescent lighting which is colder and more blue.

I've also noticed that rendering animation for this project with the earlier plugin version took 9 hours but with the new version it says 13 hours! There's also no indication in the preview window of how long each frame takes to render so I can't tell if different render settings will render a frame faster or not.

So far I'm a bit confused about how to set up this new version.

Okay, so I installed. I activated. I have the plug in in my DAZ list and is listed as loaded.

I can and an Octane tab to one of my windows. I can see the Octane functions. Have no idea what any of these settings are.

OctaneLive tab. Even though it's activated, I see a big red X. Even though I am connected, the OctaneLive Connection is red and appears to be "unconnected." No idea if this is the correct appearance or not.

I can set up a very basic scene. I hit viewport.

I get a new window, with an orange progress bar (I presume) cycling across the top of the window. Which never stops cycling. And nothing ever appears in the viewport.
