OK, I'm convinced your software has an issue with the gtx 690 card. I wish you would investigate this further instead of blaming on a prop or scene or the card. If the GTX 650 Ti can render it fine, then the GTX 690 should also. There's nothing wrong with the card. Works fine for everything else. PLEASE take a serious look at your software compatibility with the GTX 690 card. Thanks.

This is looking like a clear case of a faulty card to me. I will escalate this issue to Otoy to see if they can provide any more info to you.

Hi Morphious,

Have you made sure to disable SLI (Multi-GPU) in the nvidia control panel for the 690?

The 690 will be running identical code to the 650ti, so it is extremely unlikely that this is a software problem specific to the 690. We have a number of 690's here that have been running fine and shown no difference to any other card with compute capability 3.0.

First i would disable windows aero. Next I would suggest you try not rendering with (untick in options) the 690 core that you have the display connected to. If this starts to work fine then try swapping the display and the enabled core to test the other one.

The quicker you find out if one of your 690's cores has problems the better for getting a replacement from the supplier.

It has always been recommended to run windows/the OS off a card that is not used for rendering. It could be that with your system, if poser/octane uses all the VRAM of the card that is also used for display it effectively haults the windows UI. What would be ideal is to have your 650 running the display and the 690 entirely for rendering.

Hope that helps...

Thanks
Chris.

What do you mean by this? I don't understand were this option is?

OMFG!!!! That fixed it. disabling Mutli-GPUs in the Nvidia control panel. WTF? Why was this enabled and why is there lacking info for this option to correct problems?

I owe you a case of beer. Give me your address and beer preference. Seriously!!!!!

Multi-GPU / SLI is a technology for gaming which links the GPU's together.
This is not needed for octane and can cause problems. It is in the FAQ but there is sometimes a lot to know so finding these bits and pieces can be difficult. (http://render.otoy.com/faqs.php under Does Octane Render take advantage of SLI?)

For some people it makes no difference at all. I think by default it is off, unless you have a dual GPU card like the 690 or 590. (So it's not on automatically for 2x680 for example). If you ever re-install your NVIDIA drivers be sure to check it hasn't been turned on again.

For the built in video - is there a screen connector on your motherboard for the onboard card?
What is your motherboard and CPU model? Perhaps it is only available for certain CPU's...
If you have the motherboards manual it might be able to help.

Thanks
Chris.

Thanks Chris.

Manual updated to reflect this - http://render.otoy.com/manuals/Poser/?page_id=18.
