Please, please, please, no dongles. I couldn't imagine going back in time like that.
Beside he already said no, that they are crackable.

I take the chance to reply here as the other threads about the upcoming feature has been close.

Frankly (and I will be very short) no matter how our genius is putting the matter is just an anti-piracy system and nothing else because if I cannot connect to Internet I won't be able to use the software and this is it.. everything else is textbook, I'm not enthusiast about it, no misunderstandings, I love the software and because of this I spent good Euros for a new gtx470 and new Chassis, and cooling system etc...this is how much I believe in it but I can't see this move to be any popular amongst the old customers thats it, me included, Is just the idea of being logged anytime I use the software that out me off, I will wait like any other and come back to the issue and hope to be wrong.
I understand the issue well as I'm in the music industry myself and I know what it means to seen your hard work being spread around the globe for free (and in many cases some russians Music shop selling my work too without me being able to claim any royalties) BUT that is the way it goes, I think harder is the protection = good challenge for hackers to crack the program...my cent

Hi, all.

I have problem about internet connection too. Because i still use edge aircard when work in upcountry. Not every country in this world will have fast internet, right? I think it's ok if you use internet to activate for first time only.

Thanks, nipparnlert.

Maybe there will be a solution for people who wont or cant connect to the internet?
If not you can use Arion or your old CPU based renderer.
If you are worried about security, another option would be a Hardware firewall, as Radiance said already in the main thread.

Keep in mind, Octane is still beta, what means without any warranty for function and changes.

I think I speak for everyone when saying I can't wait to see v2.3 and what this whole topic is all about.

Let's see!

is there a reason you copy/pasted same response in like 10 threads?

Octane Live sounds potentially exciting. But, I certainly hope it doesn't go the way of XSI's Net View, or countless other web-based program additions. Ah heck. Who am I kidding. Of course it will. All of those web additions die in time, and programs look like broken messes because of it.

On the topic of piracy and improving the bottom line- I doubt it will make any difference. I mean Radiance, did your team actually do some proper research and look into some solid statistics about anti-piracy methods and their effectiveness, or is it just assumed you'll improve your bottom line by adding in this kind of functionality? I'm willing to bet you didn't do any proper research, because the people I know who do look into this stuff properly certainly don't draw the conclusions you have.
