I figured out what is causing the freeze. There are 5000 bits of geometry, with 'octane proxy object' on for all objects it will not send to render (but will show up in octane viewport).

However, If i turn proxy objects off, it will render. very odd.

bUG REPORT:
This has been around since 2 versions I think.

Karba I'm now able to recreate the problem.

Assign a multi-sub object material to an object.
Put a hdri in the scene as texture envi.
while the octane viewport is rendering.

In the mat editor drag and drop another material to the multisubobject material to change the material of that object.
Boom. The main lighting information is gone from the render.
I have to uncheck and check the Use Map in Environment settings.

I'm not sure what makes this prolem but I'm sure Karba u'll sort that out.
thanks

The Octane Viewport button from the toolbar does not work anymore in Max2012..is that a bug?

I had that too! I deleted it and reimported it with the toolbar configuration! Then it worked again! I have anyway put it now in my right mouse button menu, under the "octane properties" entry :-) - is faster!

Chris!

Karba, was something done with the memory leak in this version (1.10)?
I'm still using 1.03 because of better sky and it constantly runs out of memory. Constantly with every scene. If I work longer and do a lot of test renderings, then sooner or later Max crashes because there is no memory left. Doesn't happen with other renderers. Very frustrating cause i have a tight deadline. There is something eating up memory in your scene transfer process. But i'm not sure it is still happening in 1.10 cause like I sayd, I'm on 1.03.
Please find some time to investigate the memory leak.

Problem is I can't reproduce memory leak. May be you have some specific geometry objects which octane can't handle properly. Could you try to localize it? May be just delete objects until memory leak stop.
Or give me a scene. I will not share it.

Maybe it's someting in my system then?
I'm in a hurry atm. I have to finish the animation by Monday. I'll try to make a scene for you after that.
And thanks for looking into it.
