Hi,
We've still a lot more to implement, the whole new system to deal with piracy so don't expect a release this week...
We might do one next week (i don't promise) just with cuda 2.3 and area lights for customers to test the stability and drivers for 2.3.

Hey,
We need to implement our stuff from beta3 now as there is just too much piracy, if we don't do this now, then it could very well mean the end of octane render soon.
We're not taking direct measures against piracy, nor adding any additional copy protection systems that will annoy licensed customers, we're just adding some big-job stuff to beta 2.3 that will deal with piracy and at the same time you will all be very happy with these additional feats.

I wouldnt mind if you added more protection.
You have the right to earn a living from your hard work and as a paying customer I dont want people getting a free ride at my expense.
Octane is very reasonably priced.
My CAD program requires me to check in/out a license from their server - no big deal.
Edit: Just to clarify I only need check in after the first install but again if I reinstall or move it to another machine. There can be only 1 active install associated with my name/pc/serial no. at once unless I purchase more licenses.

I can't believe people are pirating such great value software! I hope we do like the new system. Im a little wary about needing to request a license each time I use it over the net though if that is the route you are taking but having said that a way of jumping from machine to machine with the one license would be a welcome feature.
Cheers

Hi as said we are not developing any new protections system, but a very usefull new feature that has a side effect of rendering cracked copies of octane nearly useless.

It's annoying if people crack such cheap software but don't invest too much time into copy protection since it will be racked very soon after too.
It's always a race between cracks and developers. The dev will loose everytime because a lot resources/manpower are needed to implement anti piracy stuff.
I think Vray never got cracked. Why not doing something similar? I guess they use a hardware dongle or whatever...
