I never claimed they did. I've been responding to Hydra's posts because I think DAZ's alleged culpability is a red herring and doesn't help at all.
linvanchene wrote:But some users started to praise the Iray version for DAZ Studio as the new savior.
And that is the reason why I made the extra effort to point out in full lenght once again how DAZ has let minorities like users who ask for advanced features down on so many occasions.
I think the interest in iRAY is based on a desire for bread and butter features like actually working animation rendering. The potential for OcDS to have much better features might be true but without the bread and butter ones speculation about the potential superiority of OcDS only seems to add to the frustration.
linvanchene wrote:This had nothing to do with "spinning a new narative"
As far as I understood while reading trough all posts noone wrote that DAZ is the only one to blame for the latest delay.
Perhaps you haven't but I've been responding to Hydra. The point of my responses has been to emphasise the range of reasons you listed.
linvanchene wrote:One reason why we keep repeating the same things over and over may be because we hope that a lesson may still be learned and there is hope for improvement.
Another reason may simply be that sharing the frustration with other people who are in the same situation may just give some outlet to all the frustration that has built up.

So yes the reasonable thing may be to just let people shout until they are out of energy.
But sometimes I am just in the mood to shout back.
I also don't view this as a bad thing. These flare ups aren't the cause of the problem - the plugin delays are.

The official alias for this thread is "OcDS 2.1 Suicide Hotline"

Ah, what do you know? Sarcasm has the same effect as writing a five paragraph post on why this plugin isn't being released on time!

If you find my comments annoying, think about how annoyed we are for paying real money towards something promised to be released a long time ago.

Wrap it up guys! Trim the fat, cut your losses, give us something useful and forget how your plugin will compete with iRay, that's spilled milk already.

Learn from this catastrophe and move on.

:)

I agree, that's the way forward.

Another reason I think these flare-ups occur from time to time is because it's very difficult to resist checking daily to see whether a new update has been released. I really try not to do this but even after all this time I still have hope and like some Pavlovian dog that keeps repeating the same behaviour I keep coming back. Maybe we're like zombies that keep returning to the OTOY shopping mall? Only when the plugin is released do I predict that I'll stop haunting these forums as much as I do atm.

Ok guys finishing up some animation tests tonight. Camera motion animations test ok. Character animations appears to be functional, testing geo-graph with animation.
t_3 is fully in charge of the project and will be the one posting when the time comes. Coding continues. Sorry for long pause between postings.

We have read and understand the level of frustration each have voiced and are working to provide a stable product for both still and animation.

Personally (Signing up for a BETA program, this was to be expected in my view) I use my current/stable resources pre this plugin for example and do not start/work on projects of importance with BETA software. Anything else is started within the bounds of a 'hobby' project with my full understanding that would be my work flow until a stable version gives me the chance to make the change over, so leading to a balance I am happy with both in work & play.

I still have faith that we will end up with a great plugin and would rather T_3 focussed on coding than dealing with forum issues and spending hours posting that could be spent on the plugin. I fully understand why people feel the way they do and look forward to the switch over when that time comes. Until then I will enjoy my hobby & focus on my work with passion no matter which tools I currently have to use.

I trust T_3 will get it done right and agree he shouldn't bother with forum rants. I wonder if he's a one man army on this project.

As far as I know the plugin project started with two people.

The other person left at some point in time. As far as I was able to put it together around 2012 it was not that certain to predict in which direction Otoy and OctaneRender were headed.

One result of that split up was that at least the plugin version released in 2013 had a lot of "old" code remaining that was based on the earliest OctaneRender versions.

As far as I understand it t_3 never intended to release the plugin in 2013 at that beta state but Otoy wanted to showcase some supported software at that point in time.

As far as I can put together with each release some of that old code was rewritten step by step.

I do not have any information if the next version of the plugin will be completly based only on code implemented by t_3.

If your speculation is accurate then I really wish it hadn't been released in 2013. I think the arrangement where everything is left to the developer is not good if OTOY is pressurizing them to release software which is not at a credible beta stage. The company focus then becomes about generating cash rather than releasing something near completion as stated. This has created a very negative atmosphere which OTOY seem to ignore in favour of shiny new versions of the standalone and other, as yet unrealised, ventures. I doubt that kind of strategy is going to encourage partnerships with other companies such as DAZ. I wonder if this has been the experience of other plugin developers?

I havn't been this frustrated with any purchase and any company in recent memory. I however don't think it is really fair to throw knives at T_3 as he is just an engineer on this project, even if he is the only engineer. T_3 isnt the one we paid, and he isnt the one that is responsible for support. This forum here which we pay for in terms of our purchases to OTOY is not his to maintain and I agree with many people here that have said his time is best spent coding.

OTOY really should be the villain here... they are the ones that are actually ultimately responsible. Now T_3 did say alot of things last month that turned out to be untrue, that the plugin was submitted etc... but still, If T_3 is underperforming and keeps making broken promises, it is OTOYS job to replace him. It is OTOY's job to keep us in the loop of what is going on, which they are doing an extremely poor job on. Zero communication is bad. When you are failing to deliver a purchase to customers that already paid is not just bad business.. it's actually illegal in most countries.
