We will be left holding a bag of outdated software for our money while Otoy displays their wonderful new Octane V3, which was built on the backs of current (paying) users. Of course you can upgrade for a nominal fee and re-enter this wonderful product development cycle. Everything will be fine as long as you don't ever want to move into the future. What has happened with this beta program is an insult. Will people please stop kissing behinds. You shouldn't have to kiss someones butt to get them to do their JOB. Class action???

Just kidding, you guys are doing a bang up job.
Sorry to say, but even this is likely wishful thinking.
No one from OTOY seems to bother addressing any of our concerns and frustrations by replying on the forums and keep us in the loop. It's very irresponsible, unprofessional from whoever's running this project. Come on OTOY. replace the inept people and get this thing done already!

It's been around one year since this all fell apart, so I'm not upgrading or bothering to help until they get their S^&* together on this platform.

Communicate with the people that pay your salaries (us).

Just bad business particle....

The longer they take, the more I get invested in iray, the less I care about octane...

if I could sell this crap, i would...

This is a lost case, at least the money I spent on hardware wasn't a total loss..

The lack of updates has been going on long before iRAY came on the horizon so I'm not convinced that's prevented a v2 release for DS 4.6/7. I don't expect a v2 release before DS 4.8 is released.

I doubt that DAZ would have ever invested in the OR plugin because of the history of unreliability of updates and lack of communication. The argument that DAZ has caused the hold up because they failed to communicate with the plugin developers seems unconvincing when the exact same problem with communication has been at the root of our dissatisfaction here.

DAZ did NOT share ANY information at all about their Iray development with 3rd party developers until they released the beta.

Many of the issues the OctaneRender developer had to tackle on his own must have come across when working on the Iray integration as well.

So instead of each team working on their own they could actually have worked together finding solutions that will then help both render engines to be integrated.
But DAZ deceided to not share any information and working on their own.
It's completely understandable - why should they share anything with competing project? And actually that's OcDS devs who should share cause OcDS is much more mature being years in development already :)

And what about Luxus and Reality? AFAIR Luxus was released for DS3 and Reality has reached version 4 (and not Beta :) - should they share their codebase too?
linvanchene wrote: Can you even imagine how frustrating it must be to find out after months of trying to find solutions on your own that someone else was working on the same issues and did not bother to share what they figured out? Countless hours, days, weeks of development time simply wasted.
Welcome to the life of software developer :)
linvanchene wrote: From my point of view DAZ 3D did not only screw over the OctaneRender plugin developer by withholding valuable information but they screwed over each and every OcDS plugin user.

If the DAZ development team actually worked together with t_3 some issues could proabably have been solved months ago by combining efforts!!!
:!: :!: :!:

But of course any posts that mention this on the DAZ 3d forum were deleted immediately.
OMG, and they sell Luxus and Reality in their store! How more could they screw OcDS users? :)
linvanchene wrote: As it is now the DAZ Iray integration has the same animation limitations than the OctaneRender version has.

Go ahead and try to animate any Iray native properties that have no 3Delight counterpart and you will find out that no keyframes are placed in any of the DAZ timelines and it is currently simply impossible to animate native Iray properties.
In my tests everything that has to be animated is animated properly being it Iray or 3delight (photometric light properties, for example). What properties do you mean? iray materials in DS are the same Shader mixer bricks for now and they share the same limitations with 3delight materials (regarding animation). One can even make universal material that will work in both 3delight and iray simultaneously in Shader mixer.

And timelines do not have any connection to renderers in DS.
linvanchene wrote: In many cases when you report an issue with Iray all DAZ can say is:
We forwarded it to Nvidia but we have no control if that will be fixed and implemented or not.
That's why it's still in Beta, isn't it ? :) (and that damned intersecting transparencies bug prevents me from using iray too  )
linvanchene wrote: In the DS changelog you can observe that almost each day a new private build is updated:

I would be deeply satisfied seeing the same log for OcDS with daily improvements :)

Maybe what currently would help some people is another PRERELEASE version based on DS4.7?
4.7 is current official release. Any plugin has to be released for currently released host app.
Release date for 4.8 is not publicly announced and there isn't even Release Candidate for it.
Wait for 4.8? Winter is coming! :)

And no more PRERELEASEs, I paid for BETA and I want it on my downloads page, with feature list confirmed by Otoy.

I agree with this completely but that's not why the plugin has been delayed. As you stated, these problems were evident at the start of the plugin development years ago so it's not a new or recent problem. In fairness, DAZ has only just released their iRAY beta and it's possible they'll release the final version before ORDS plugin at the rate they're updating it. Possibly because they have more people working on it and a public beta to respond to. One of DAZ's big advantages is the rapid rate they're responding to their beta.

It seems this plugin is going to die tired and lonely.
I haven't heard anything positive or remotely encouraging from OTOY.
It's the same ol' rumors, speculations and finger pointing.

Hopes and dreams don't render anything. :x

Something stable that animates and supports maxwell cards in 4.7 should be the end goal. Why support for Maxwell cards can't just be added to 1.2 I have no idea, but I don't know anything about coding.

It's sad that one person takes the blame for this...I think the real error was selling the plugin too early (by two years)

Does anyone else think that OTOY has not lived up to the statements made in the Beta Program Information? Specifically this:

It is important to note that Beta software is often not feature complete, however OctaneRenderâ„¢ Beta products are usually quite mature and can be used for professional purposes.

As the Beta cycle progresses, features will be added and stability increased until the final feature set has been reached. Participants in the Beta program will have access to updated builds as the Beta period progresses.

They're protected in the first section because of the use of the word "usually," but they definitely haven't fulfilled their end of the bargain in the second section. Added features? Yeah, but at the cost of losing animation altogether. And stability has decreased, not increased.

In my opinion, it can't be used for professional purposes either, but all you need is one person to sell a render and boom, professional purposes.

Perhaps a mass email bombardment?

Crappy release schedules 'is' the price you pay for 'free' Daz software.

Talk around, the docs from Daz are crap. Its a fact. At least that's what all the developers for other companies say.

Paolo worked for like 3 years to get geograft working. He's got stories that would make your hair curl. The guy assigned by Daz to help Paolo work on Reality (he even asked to see Paolo's source code)... left Daz, and wrote Luxus.

Now tell me again what you were wanting for more open communication? Better sharing would be nice right? Full disclosure?
