I have just purchased the studio license, but I can not use 2 GPUs. :-(
The licensing of Octane is a nightmare!

Hello Beppe,

I have a similar question here. I am using octane on C4D, and I have the 4.0 perpetual license. And now, I got a new RTX 2080ti card, and would like to try out the RTX support on the new 2020 as I am going to render consecutively for a project. So ideally I would like to subscribe to 2020 for just 1 or 2 months during this heavy render period, while continue using 4.0 for the rest of the year. So would this be possible? Can I install both OC4 and OC2020 plugin for C4D?

Thanks for the support

Best,
Jimu

Hi,
yes, it is possible, but you need to download the Studio 2020.1 version, and install it in another copy of C4D, you cannot have two versions of plugin in the same C4D app.

Have you tried the demo version?

About RTX acceleration, it depends from the scene complexity, and in particularly, from geometry, and materials used.
To get the best from RTX acceleration, please follow these rules:

- Use just triangles (vertex displacement is allowed but no texture displacement) and avoid using shader features that involve geometry, i.e. dirt and accurate rounded edges (these are currently being optimized further) and finally, no motion blur. And as you can expect, a massive number of instances gives a higher boost.
- So basically, for best performance: use regular triangles with simple shading, no dirt or rounded edges, no motion blur, and a lot of instancing.
