Hi mbetke,
Octane works in units of metres. The use of physical units is crucial in Octane (like in all unbiased render engine); for example, window panes should have thickness so that they can properly absorb light as it travels through the glass.
If the thickness were specified as 1.2m instead of 1.2cm the glass would appear black, as all the light has been absorbed in travelling through it; then you'll ween need to increase power but this will be not consistent with reality (e.g.
100000 Watt light bulb).

Okay thanks. Me renders really look good and clients never complain but I have a hard time on good interiour and evening lighting adjusting artifical lights.

Any idea how I can solve the problem with huge 700m large buildings after changing the units?

..OK can we just confirm this and how do we set system units and working units to make sure were working in the right dimensions .. does that mean whatever max says 1cm its the same as 1 m.. you understand how this gets confusing - can we have a 100% foolproof reference

we've always worked in inches as system units. Does octane see 1 unit as 1 inch if it is set to inches (maybe it internally converts) or do system units must be set to meters only? But how do you then work in small scales like plants upclose, bugs etc ? Thanks

Hi guys,
It is important to note the distinction between System and Display units. Display units only affect how geometry is displayed in the viewports.
System units determine the actual scale of geometry.

Hi Elvissuperstar,
it is correct that it does not work; displacement generates the geometry as a priority, so no projection has no effect. alternatively it uses baking texture map node.

richardyarlett wrote:Guys, I have to tell you that this entire build, since 3.06 is just so buggy. I have tried three times to leave 3.06 and go to any of the 3.07 systems, and non of them work with MOVABLE PROXYs. They do not act correctly. They do not move, or load in and out of memory properly. I get frozen geometry and corrupt geometry. Its a REALLY BASIC problem guys. How has then not been address in all of these versions of 3.07. FIX IT PLEASE. MOVEABLE PROXYs are REQUIRED.
Hi richardyarlett,
could you better explain what you mean, sharing file and screenshot?

It is hard to post a screen shot of this. The whole point of this is it really needs a video, but really doesn't need explaining. The MOVEABLE PROXY system is completely broken in 3.07. That is all I need to say. Go check it out for yourself.

Hi richardyarlett,
I do not understand what you mean about movable proxy.

yes we know about system and display units. But it is ok to set 1 unit to inches, centimeters in system units besides the meters. I just want to make sure octane will treat it what ever it is set to.
