Another question..
Say I have a single material and it's applied to hundreds of groups. How do I edit the material ONCE in Octane and have it be shown as edited in all those groups?
IOW, Say I have a white default material and want to change it to red plastic in Octane. How is this done? TIA.

Here's a serious problem with the geometry NOT transferring correctly from SketchUp to Octane. This represents a pretty big problem. If the smoothing and normals don't transfer correctly then there's not much use for using Octane, no?
Here's the file so you can check it out yourself:

Can confirm the 'unload Octane plugin' bug, and also the fact Octane has to build geo on open is an ongoing concern for me.
Thanks,

Hello there Chipp, you are right in everything you say...the pluggin like this should not be called stable. I know they had to change many things in how the plugin works, but...years have passed.
About the problem you showed here, is not about the plugin, or the geometry transfer. Its an option in Octane.
You have to set the Smoth value off in the octane material setting. By default all Octane material have the Smoth option enabled, and that makes geometry look like this.
But...and there is always a but...in this version of the plugin, when i make any change in the material they are not saved

....even if i save the SU file, when i reopen Octane viewport...material editing is lost
PS: what program you use to record? ai can make some videos just to show a few thing too.
cheers

Thanks for the reply. I'm using Camtasia for Windows to record. BTW, Is there a way to edit just ONE material and have it change on all the objects which also have that material?

Thanks for the recorder info.
About materials, in this version it doesn't really have a point, has we cannot pick materials, its a mess to find them and link.
With material picker we should be able to select the material we like, and copy and paste to the geometry we desire. That way they would have the same material, but (in this method), everytime we make a change in one we need to update all others (dont know if they stay linked).
How it supposed to work is - every geometry with the same material info would be connected to the same material node.
There are a lot of things that we cannot test in this version.
cheers

We're expecting to bring out a new build of the SketchUp plugin to accompany the official release of Octane 3.07, probably in the next week or so. This will have fixes for several of the issues people have reported in this forum. The fixed material picker will definitely be in this release. We will try to also include fixes for the loss of synchronisation between the daylight and other lighting settings between Octane and SketchUp, and for the LiveDB crashes on material import, among others. It's possible that some of these may have to wait until the following release, but I'll try to have them ready as soon as possible.
Thanks to everyone who has reported their issues here. We really appreciate your help. We'd particularly like to thank Chippwalters for working with us to help track down the LiveDB issue; this has been a hard problem to debug, but with your help we think we're on the trail of a full fix now.

I look forward to it.
Please, PLEASE do not instantiate it on launch. Let me choose when to use it. I will use Octane to render only 10% of the time, the other time I will be modeling. Thank-you.
