Nice rig Boris, just hope that nothing will fall of the table if you want to turn monitor :D ;).

How's the noise at openrig comparing to open nestor case?

The noise is quite low compared to Netstor, GTX 780s with their bigger fans are producing less noise then TITANs with a single smaller fan. The centre of gravity of the rig is towatds the centre of the table so hopefullly it won't fall off. :D

Powerful build man!

16 GPUs would be amazing! I have been maxed out for over a year now.

Abstract,
Put your rig in your sig... That way we can see what you got.

Found out It's 12 gpus per rendering scene. If you have 24 cards you can render two 3ds Max scenes at once. Good for animations.

Coilbrook how do you mean render two scenes at once? Do you mean having 2 applications open an turning off half the devices on each? Or using back burner or something to split up the frames of an animation? How can this use more than 12 cards? (I've stopped at 12 cards as I thought that was the limit, but if its possible I would definitely buy more, especially if otoy sort out the free render node licenses)

Free render nodes ? Hmm when did they say/hinted there will be free render node licenses :)? Any link to that ?

thanks

I guess you can have 2 open 3ds max scenes let's say A and B. A can use 12 GPUs to render and B can use 12 other GPUs to render all connected to one router or network hub
Here is what Otoy told me "Octanes limit of 12 GPU's is based of the number you can have connected via network rendering all working on the same scene. It's just that any given running octane can only use max 12.
You could have 6 machines with 4 GPU's each (24 GPU total), machine 1 is running octane with 2 and 3 connected, totalling 12 GPU's. At the same time your could have machine 4 running octane, connected to machines 5 and 6 and there will be no problems, neither octane is using more than 12 GPU's."

We're currently using Deadline with Octane and it's working GREAT! (C4D plugin) My studio has now 17 or 18 quad Titan workstations. With Deadline we can FINALLY use all that horsepower at once. (The studio is noticeably warmer when someone is rendering!)

I would say so far it's working exceptionally well. I think this is probably currently the only way around this ridiculous 12 GPU limit. I'm sure Otoy is limiting it this way to make their so far, smoke and mirrors cloud solution more attractive. At least it works with Deadline. Another nice thing about Deadline is it will also work with Vray which we also use in our shop for certain projects. It really is a fantastic net rendering solution.
