Why not give them their money and say sorry and goodbye?
All this whinging and bitching over and over again and in new threads is pointless and even becoming annoying....sorry but after >20 pages my sympathy for the few is running out.
Only a few customers lost is better than only a few continuing sales because of piracy.
So Roubal and Lutze and a few others will use a different renderer because Octane doesnt suit them...fine..
Lets move on

Ok, this ist it...
I will stop "whinging and bitching" because I now kwow, that this forum is only for positive post about the software. Sorry for my dumbness. When the next thread is comming up with 200 posts like "thanks radiance", "keep up your good work" I will happily join and write the 201th post...
The real reason I will stop complaining is because I have the impression, that it is not possible to discuss matters here without coming down on the personal level. This is not the way i like to spend my time, talking to people who don“t know their manners.
Why should I stop using Octane. I never said that and why in hell should I want my money back. But as long as I am a legitimate Customer I have all right to post positive and negative....understood?
Last Post...Lutze out.

Temper, temper..
The reason you should stop complaining is because radiance has made his decision already.
what you may think about it doesnt actually matter.
further more it is boring and unproductive to listen to the same, page after page.
already radiance closes several threads that are 'going nowhere'...and now you contribute to another...who has no manners but to keep talking regardless?
wait and see what arrives in 2.3 before condemning it.
I am almost tempted to pay your refund myself just so some of the pointless 'whinging and bitching' goes away.
later dude

Lutze, this is a forum, and as such we are all free (to a polite extent) to express our feelings, Radiance has never to my knowledge censored any post (well there was this funny bot trying to sell something, car related or something like that), and there has been some harsh ones.
But I think that it's too early to complain, we are just speculating, none of us know nothing about the new version besides Radiance, and if he says that it will work out I think we should have the decency to believe him, at least till we have the chance to try it out and then with an informed opinion we have the right to complain if we still don't feel that Octane works as is should.
Radiance likes to give us tips of where Octane is going, and when a new version is out he has always listened to our request and has complied if possible, so why would this time be any different?
I've learned the hard way that there is some clients I can't show previews of my work beforehand, they will mistake it for the final and jump to the wrong conclusions no matter what I say. This one time one potencial client asked me if I could do a better job than the professionals he had already hired, because, he said, their job was "crappy", and to prove his point he showed me a picture saying it was too grainy, they were using an unbiased renderer and had showed him undercook previews. To make it short, I lost a client after I told him off, and explained him how wrong he was.
So, in my opinion, instead of jumping to conclusions and starting an uncalled flame war in the forums, we should wait to see what 2.3 has to offer, and then, as always, in an educated maner, express our opinions and suggestions to make a better (if possible) version.

Didn't said anything yet on new license topic and don't want to brag long.
rfox wrote:well.....If only i have to choose between floating license and dongle. I would pick dongle so i can carry it anywhere i want, connect it to any computers without hassle. that is just my thought. i'm willing to sacrifice extra cost for dongle.
what if.......

+1 for dongle!
Because I wouldn't ever connect a rendering machine to internet at all.
It might be ok for workstation (as better alternative to 3 licenses only), but I hope we'll have a liberty to turn any automatic updates off.
I can't imagine all that work Refractive Software does, but I hope in some time a dongle will be an option.

Well, I'm a little confused. Why would you need a machine dedicated to rendering with Octane? I thought one of the benefits was that we could add more graphics cards or use that expander thingy so we wouldn't need an actual renderfarm, but could just use our workstations.

This time, I have to follow realTimer : I'm confused too.
I perfectly understand the potential dangers or drawbacks of any kinds (reliability, non constant availability) of the requirement of an internet connection, but how only for rendering ?
It is also true whatever task you do while connected imho.
But maybe it is just a misunderstanding...

Is this all a waste of time or what? We didn't even saw what this means and all the cost/benefits, why not start going rampage when the solution is actually presented to the end user? Which benefits does all this public talk offers?

Well, you are right. Plus I don't actually own any usable rendering nodes yet

Though I feel they would pay-off.
Anyway (besides dongle being more reliable and convenient) I'd prefer being able to run Octane as well as anything else on separate, stable render node without a dumb user (me) trying to crash the system from time to time, especially when the deadline is coming.
Also I don't think I'll buy Xpander. Render nodes are needed anyway (there are tasks besides Octane) using both will cost more.
And finally my new vga heats the room about 5 degrees up with half-open window. I'd prefer to run it somewhere else

Please keep the temper,
We are just 'chit chat' here or you may called it 'share the thought among the users'

we are just trying to adapt with a new changes coming up on this new version, that is all.
and I believe all people here are really....really love much with this piece of software. so that, there is no famous software grows without critiques. that's normal (...or am i gone abnormal

)
wisely, we'd better wait for the upcoming Octane 2.3 and test drive it, and give it some critiques if there something you may not really comfort with.
I vote for dongle!
