I have an idea to create a seperate tool that would be included for free for Phantom Scatter licensees.

The idea is to make a seperate program that allows you to create 3D color-grading LUT cubes with ease. I have the entire infrastructure ready to make a tool like this, and I could use it myself as well.

After creating a LUT, you'd simply load up an image file or point to a folder, and then the color grading will be applied to all images.

Anyone familiar with color grading? Are there any pitfalls to this?

Hi Phantom107,

very excited to see how your scattering tool is getting more and more powerfull. The image based scatter looks wonderful!
I wished, it would be available for C4D as well.

For your LUT generator: Very exciting about this, too. There are only 2 or 3 standalone apps out, that generate custom LUTs... and they are selling from 99-299$ I think. So if you manage to make this app and sell it separately for a good price (for those, who don`t have a phantom scatter license), I would definetly be interested. (and a huge amount of filmmakers out there, too)

Would it also be possible to create a Lightroom Plugin, that generates custom LUTs?

Greetings,
ChrisVis

Hi Phantom107,

one tool out there is
http://3dlutcreator.com/

There is another one I just can“t find at the moment.

DaVinci Resolve lite (free) also comes with the option to generate LUTs, but not everyone wants to get into a complete and complex color grading suite just for generating LUTs.

Just found a tutorial that Photoshop CC2014 seems to have it implemented:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qx_Ib6AtYXA

Not sure, if they will work for everything (Premiere, AE), I will try it out.

Greetings,
ChrisVis

Hi Phantom 107,

When scattering the OBJ can be very different in size;
when doing landscaping it is very large OBJ (say 100mtr)
and when doing i.e. a carpet for interior it is mcuh smaller (say 1mtr)
When scattering on very large OBj and looking it from a distance to see the complete terrain I cannot manage to see the scattered points.. I tried settings for preview radius and height.
.. what can I do tom mkae them visible from disatnce and how can I manage that?

greetz,

The drawing distance for the instances can be changed using the big up/down arrows in the top-left corner of the interface.

If that doesn't suffice, I will make the maximum distance larger in the next update. But be aware that drawing a lot of instances in the preview can considerably impact performance.
