hi,
please, don't be so negative, a constructive criticism is always the best approach, in my opinion.
I agree that constructive criticism is the best approach. And I simultaneously support Squirtle's negativity. I think we need a dual approach of simultaneous constructive criticism and negativity. I look at the other plugin forums and the plugins in general have all kinds of bugs, maybe that's a part of what is delaying the release of OR3?

Maybe OR3 will be released, and all the plugins will be all new, streamlined, and working 100%......

Again, maybe? :o

"Amazing new O3! New features!! Buy now to get upgrade discount for plugin. New plugin will be released REALLY soon!!!"

That would be a blessing.

I do find it encouraging that bepeg4d is here as a representative and I also understand the frustration about ongoing development. Since the last release I've been able to render animation which is a huge step forward. I'd love a final release but now that I can at least render animation I'm less desperate for the next update although I understand that others might still feel frustrated by the limitations of the last release. I really look forward to a final v2 release soon.

The current version mostly works for me. I am just more concerned with the future. Took us several months to get a 2.0 plugin but I paid for the upgrade the week it became available. Waited several months to be able to use the OOC feature. If 3 has some neato stuff, I want to use it. But I don't want to go back to using the standalone. Its not optimal for me to do that with any regularity.

And maybe I won't want or need 3.0. Octane is starting to go beyond anything I could want or need. Lots of features I don't use, it only takes 2 killer ones however for me to not want to go backwards. 2.x had 2 features that were worth the upgrade. And I'm not complaining about Octane getting fancy. Just a reality for me as simple hobbyist :)

Just from looking at the announcement of the OR3 I can already see 2 that are quite interesting, The OpenSL and the Volumetric/Particle simulation support. :)

Yeah neither of which I would use. There was a lot of interesting stuff in 2.0 I never use. OOC Memory is fantastic addition, and the coherent ratio option for PT and DL is a great time saver. Region render is a life saver. But there were lots of things I don't or can't use.

The plugin had some nice additions that are plugin specific with the more recent updates that make going back to 1.x an unpleasant idea for me. But while the 3.0 additions seem neato, not sure I would ever use them. Or use them enough to fork over mo money.

But if we had a 3.x plugin maybe...but I know I don't want to prepay for stuff I can't use (in DS), even if it's at a discount. Getting 2 was a risk, and I am risk adverse.
Advanced live texture baking: A feature that’s most beneficial for use in real-time game engines, OctaneRender 3 supports unbiased GPU texture baking (UV or volumetric) of global illumination, spherical harmonics and 8D light fields in Unreal Engine 4 and Unity plugins.
This feature however...sounds epic. Err, like a big deal. Would love to see it in practice(preferably, in DS!).

Will HDR Light Studio's extension be implemented as it does with the poser plugin and future releases? That would be a huge step getting over the light setbacks in the latest nvidia plugin in daz studio.

I can't even imagine a v3 being released any time soon so the dilemma of whether to upgrade is pretty remote. I'm also disinclined to buy another upgrade now that IRAY is available for free. If there was something in v3 that would definitely enhance my renders in DS then possibly but I'd need more information about these new features to convince me.

For many of us iRay isn't interesting, or an option but you keep putting that out there so maybe it's for you. But the impending V3 update is relevant for many of us on the Octane forum. Otoy stated a few months ago it was going to be ready the second half of this year, which is very vague but means likely within the next 6 months.

Even if I found iRay a viable option, you lose all the workflow benefits of the OcDS plugin...so while free will be free, I could care less :)
