Last day of the week? Yeah, that sounds about right! I think all the videos are free to watch via the Apple developer website. Some good info in these that aren't covered in the WWDC keynote – the State of the Union vid is always worth a watch… https://developer.apple.com/videos/play/wwdc2020/102/

I promise we will share news, and it won't be small news, once we are in the clear to do so! The build we have going into testing on closed beta - it's looking really great everyone. Thank you for patience.

Wow I’m going to cry this is so exciting and good to hear! I think I’m going to wind up doing something dumb like turning my pc into a Hackintosh vs using the iMac I replaced... I’m scared of myself now.

Was expecting this after reading this: https://venturebeat.com/2016/07/21/otoy ... ics-chips/

It`s really impressive. Would be awesome to see custom Octane GPU`s in the near future. ;)

Also interesting. Octane GPUs. But in case they work on the Mac - Apple won't approve this, and neither will Nvidia.

Anyway, I'm worried about what's going to happen with AMD. Because if Apple builds its own GPUs, I wonder when AMD will be banned soon. And will the next iMac or MacPro only have ONE Apple Silicon Graphics Unit and how could you upgrade several to get more performance. Also the graphics and processor share RAM, but for Octane X you would have to buy a lot of very very expensive Apple RAM and so on...
I am very cautious about the future. I already made a bad investment in the MacPro this year because I still can't work with it. Because neither Photoshop (always crashes after an hour of intensive use - VRAM bug) nor Redshift or Octane X work properly with it. COVID then cut down the freelance orders considerably.

I do find it odd that one of of OTOYs major releases is due any day now and the only interest seems to be from half a dozen people on a forum sub-thread. I'm sure it's going to be massive news repeated everywhere, but, still, it all feels a bit under-the-radar at the moment. Roll on tomorrow…

I know right? There used to be a thread on Macrumors late last year early this year that was full of buzz. Not anymore. I think I’ve fully exhausted all Octane X content a few days ago... I don’t even use a Mac anymore as my workstation but could use it on my 16” MBP, and it’s still just really exciting when you look at where the Mac is headed. It’s uncertain for sure but exciting! I have high hopes for Metal 8-) even if it’s just below par with Nvidia / Windows I’d appreciate all the other OS features and thoughtful design.

Unfortunately I think it’s too late for the majority of professionals who have already set sail on the PC - Nvidia ship.
Only a handful of those guys would consider coming back to Mac after heavily investing in PC and Nvidia, I’ve talked with quite a few who are now Mac-haters as they feel the need to justify their decision.
Also the less aware / ill informed guys only know that Mac and Nvidia fell out years ago and closed the book there, I think only a few people guessed that otoy and redshift would create metal versions.

I always suspected that Apple showed OTOY and Red shift a little bit behind the curtain with their AR ambitions... and I think that's why they want 3D all of a sudden. Apple will need a lot of 3-D content and definitely octanes real time brigade engine to make AR work nicely. We're already seeing it work on iPhone and iPad. This will be needed for AR work with Apple glass. Next big thing! is a rather big carrot. Get in on the ground floor is my guess!
