Hi to all the crew,
this is my first competition and I think that you're too good at creating wonderfull stuff in 3d graphic, all of you, so I post my work just I could say "I was there", without hoping to reach any significant result, here!
Anyway, my idea's been.. when you notice that the enemy is too big and too strong for your strenght or that you're going to fight just against windmills, it's time "to take flight"!.. and sometime fantasy (or creativity) is the best way; and what's better than a trip, a journey or a change of air?!
So, I've modelled the mediterranean Gozzo and the Piper Cub with Hexagon and Blender (for the shape of the Gozzo's skull I used Free Ship too), the cloudy sky on the background has been rendered with Vue; with Gimp and Blender I painted the few textures (maybe those are simple all too!). Octane (pre-Beta 2.42) has given a nice and correct lighting to my simple idea.
I hope someone could like this (otherwise I'll take flight!)
My kind regards and good luck to the technicians and the artists here (everybody).

Beautiful work everyone, very impressive. Here is my second entry using the same model after reworking the polished bronze and base materials. Lighting is only the hdri pictured which for me also gives a much better sense of the objects scale. Some post was done to improve the lighting in of the figure. Pathtracing,16000 samples, 121910 Triangles.

Hi guys,
Nice entries we got here!!very inspiring!!
I just want to post the final image for my entry.I have been playing around octane to achieve the mood I want for this image with minimal post pro.I used PScs3 for removing some firefly and some brightness/contrast.
Some tech. info > 560034 tris > 3000x2000 (resized for this upload) > baked 4 hours > win7/8GB ram/Geforce GT220 1GB >
Hope u like it mates!!cheers!!
This is another view from my previous submission on page 15 (ill post the screen grab later when i got home from work +updated!!)
Have a nice day!!!

Hey everyone,
This is my first Octane render. The scene was created for this competition. No post processing. Modeled in Blender 2.56, rendered in Octane pre-beta 2.42
Inspiration comes from the idea of how remote and untouched, things can remain in space.
222k polygons, 88mb of vram.
3700 samples over 5 hours on a GTX260.
Hope you enjoy

Ill Update those thru the day ( for less noise and changed texture of head - for now its procedural one )... ....( color correction, brightness / contrast , bloom added , in later updates chromatic abberation ) and then Ill throw up or either fall straight on my face...

all the proofs ill be posting on wip thread...
edit: Updated !!! YEAH !! Im going to sleep now

Hi, my name is Taehee.
I am a general artist. I am working at San Francisco.
<technical details>
- Rendered in demo version, then I can't change the resolution.
- Render time is around 40 minutes in Desert road shot and 20 minutes in another shot.
- Car modeling in maya(I made this in my company) and textures in maya and photoshop.
I like to comp for a better shot, but I couln't do this here, 'cause of the rules.
Later, I will fix more. But It is very interesting to do.

Here is my first submission for the contest. All of my submissions will be based on the use of Octane for medical visualizations and imaging. This submision is of a reconstruction of cobea pollen. The data was collected as 104 slice images from a laser scanning microscope. we then reconstructed it in 3D and rendered using Octane. So this is actually a reconsrtuction of REAL Pollen. We are actually creating a seperate imaging devision in my Institute which concentrates on the use of this technology for diagnostic imaging.

Here is my render for the contest. I was inspired by my brother's Dionea Muscipula "Big Mouth" and I decided to make the one for the competition. I tried to render the scene with pathtracing to get more translucent plants but my GPU failed on the scene with pathtracing at 0.5 MPx and highest possible resolution for direct lightning was 1.3MPx before octane crashed (also my poor 8600GT's fault

)
Technical info:
Triangles : 510 426
Original poly count : 234 028
Resolution : 1500x850
Rendertime : ca 18 hours
Avarage framerate : about 0.13fps
Samples : over 6000
All the textures were hand made and the only one for the background was downloaded from CGtextures.
The noise had to be removed by hand for the hotpixel removal option is removing the noise based on contrast I believe (can be wrong though), and I had some details that were very blurred after the filter, so I removed the noise manually.
AO render
Octane screenshots
and below you can follow how the renders were developed to the final stage

Good luck to all the participants and have fun!
