THIS is the type of information that is helpful, t_3.
It lets people know:
- You're still alive.
You haven't abandoned the plugin.
You're actively working on things.
You have everyone's interests in mind.
A ballpark of when to expect something from you.
And I would imagine it took maybe 5 minutes at most to type all that.

yes he did. i'm currently waiting for another test to finsh. nothing special, just 4x gen.4 fully textured, couple clothes, inside a building, standard sun light, default auto mats, nbr of aniblocks thrown in. res is 1280x536, post pro bloom and cam blur. there are two machines with two standard titans (vram need is 2,5gb), 1600 frames rendered in the past 3.5hrs...

My point is:
It doesn't take much at all to let people know that you have not went into a coma, or got hit by a bus, such that you are no longer developing this plugin.
Frankly, the fact that you're talking in this forum now about anything, after months of silence, means something.

Agreed. I feel relieved that you got in touch with us and told us what you were working on.
Because of that, I am going back to OcDS and continue on my animation work. Faith restored.
Thank you!

Comparison..
Iray = 13 minutes (5000 samples)
OcDS = 1 min 40 secs (2000 samples Path Tracing)
I am seeing similar results. Am I doing something wrong with OcDS or is it already good? How do you tell if it has SSS?

me too.

if you get the same result in ocds 4 times faster (counting the s/pix in) then there is nothing obviously wrong.
kibbycabbit wrote:How do you tell if it has SSS?
if you have used auto mats in ocds, there is no sss. for iray i can't say, but the image doesnt't look like. sunlight is also a bit difficult because of the hard shadows (hdr probably gains more articulated results); apart from material editing: in ocds making the sun size bigger would help. also lowering the exposure and instead turn on post proc to get a little glow/bloom helps to soften the result. using different camera tonemappings can help a lot (i personally like the kodak types, which usually need to set higher gamma in the imager around 1.6).
one of my best so far (and since i have not that much time to experiment, there must be much better possible):

in particular on this one: technical in ocds if there is a medium node with scattering. this not necessarily means that there is some sss effect
from my experience that is usually hard to tell
for sure, since sometimes some mix type materials without sss may give nearly similar results. and sss is (imo) also often overstressed as the cure for everything. in fact the battle for realistic skin is the toughest one, and even things that work with lighting setup A may still look wrong if lighting B is notable different. TRRazor can probably tell tales about it...

A very nice one at that too.

Ears are the easiest thing to use, to know if there is SSS, I think. Also, the best way I've found to test it is with lighting from the back, showing through the material, toward the camera.
In this case with your photos, it would be very subtle (barely noticeable) in the webbing between her fingers.
