A follow up to my previous response. If a subscription model is the new way then it should work like this.

Customer purchases 1 or 2 years of support. They get access to the plugin of choice and all updates for the duration of that year or 2 years. After the subscription period they no longer receive updates but maintain access to the last version they had access to prior to subscription ending. You can lock this perpetual access only to users that purchase a year or even a two year subscription. At least this way we as a customer don’t feel like we just threw our money away.

Once we are closer to 2019.1 stable, we'll share improvements for subscriptions/updates and perpetual licences that we will roll out with this release. We have been very carefully reviewing the feedback from all of you since November, and are working hard to come up with a fair, simple and inexpensive set of options for all tiers of users.

Thank you for replying, Jules.

Now the current version is 2018.1, so I guess we DAZ Studio users won't see 2019.1, till when? the end of the year?, 2020 maybe?

That sounds great, Thanks for listening users Goldorak.

Appreciated (especially perpetual mode :))

Hi,
Currently I have one 1080 Ti and a AA Subscription License. I'm planning to buy one or two more RTX GPUs for Octane in coming months.
However according to this thread, I will not be able to use 2+ GPUs in 2018 / 2019 builds, nor can I use new RTX features (NVLink, Vulkan backend etc.)
I wonder if it's possible to somehow 'upgrade' my AA subscription to $699 tier, so I can use All-access on multiple GPUs with new RTX features?
I don't use network rendering, cloud services, I just want to use 2-3 GPUs with RTX support in all coming versions.
Thanks a lot

As I understand from the post, the last version I can get without paying any extra is 4.02.1 and if I wanted to upgrade to 2018 version I would have to pay at least 200 dollars for a one year access only.

The issue I am having is when I first purchased a perpetual license of Octane it was so that I do not have to pay any extra money and not to have any re-occurring payments. And you made it sound as if that was the case when you were marketing the previous version (V3). Now things have changed and you want extra money to enable me to upgrade. And not only once but every year.

For the above stated reason, it would seem logical to move away from Octane at this time. I have already purchased a perpetual license of Redshift which gives me access to all future updates and access to all 3D software rendering plugins they have available including C4D at no extra charge. I guess I will be using Redshift from now on.

Thank you.

This is not true. Redshift price is 500$ including 1 year of future updates after that you must pay $250 for next 1-year maintenance extension. So Octane rent offer is much better.

No, that's not true.
To get access to all future Redshift version you need to renew the annual maintenance for $250 /year ....

The truth is, Octane annual maintenance (Ent. AA pass) is cheap compared to other renderers :

- Octane : $200 / year, 11 Dcc plugins included.

- Redshift : $250 / year, 5 Dcc plugins included.

- Renderman : $250 / year, 4 Dcc plugins included.

- Iray : $300 / year, 1 Dcc plugins included.

- Vray : $400 / year, 1 Dcc plugins included.

- Arnold : $615 / year, 5 Dcc plugins included.

But there is one important difference, when you get Redshift you get permanent license + 1 year maintenance but you don't go back to older version if you stop paying maintenence, you get to KEEP latest version you payed up to date (since license is perpetual) with maintenance (same like modo, substance and few other have). Basically it is more "Rent to Own system" not Rent only as Adobe/Autodesk and currently Octane.
