when I exit Poser normally (File -> Exit) with this plugin (2.22.2.46) the Poser window closes and then Poser crashes. I'm on Poser Version 10.0.5.28925, if that matters.
It doesn't matter if I did open the Octane Plugin or viewer or not. :(
Hi Uwe - this sounds unrelated to the plugin. If Poser is crashing and you have NOT opened the plugin setup window, then the plugin and Octane have not been loaded into memory.
File "D:\Programme\CGI\Poser\Poser Pro 2014\Runtime\Python\lib\encodings\utf_8.py", line 16, in decode
return codecs.utf_8_decode(input, errors, True)
UnicodeDecodeError: 'utf8' codec can't decode byte 0xfc in position 10: invalid start byte
If you try to open an old file which gives you this error, then send me the octaneplugin.log, I should be able to determine what the problem is.

Thanks

Paul

Just a wee question....
If we can't have, "change all materials on this particular geometry to Diffuse in one go" command and are forced to pick each sub-part of the geometry to change one at a time... is there a way to stop the Material List tree from updating and flashing in front of our eyes with every change... I almost feel an fit coming on.
The updating doesn't occur when we change the Glossy to Diffuse... which is good.

I will take a look at this in the next release.

Why can you not have this? I checked back through this thread and couldn't see a request for it, but maybe I missed it?

Awesome... that would be great for my epilepsy

I was pretty sure this couldn't be done in earlier releases of the plug-in... but if it could be an option, then please, please can we have it?

Yes, I know, one should suppose that. It's weird, I know. But it's reproducible.
Here's what I did:

Installed Plugin version 2.15.0.37
Started Poser
Quit Poser
Everything OK.
Installed Plugin version 2.22.2.46
Started Poser
Quit Poser
Window closes and error message pops up.

Definitively only happens when I have the latest Plugin installed....

My guess is that the crash is happening when Poser quits and the plugin tries to save the Network render settings. Does it crash if you have started the plugin and done a render? Does it crash if run Poser as Administrator?

I'm on Win 7 (Pro 64bit Dutch SP1), same Poser, same plugin, and not having the issue.
So it might be some Windows (timing) thing.
The most important thing to me would be: are modified scene files saved properly before shutting down Poser?
Then the message can be ignored for the workflow itself, although I agree it's annoying.

note: my Poser is not installed in the default program folder, though (C:\program files), it's in a separate directory on another drive. So, usually no UAC problems there...

Thanks Uwe. My best guess is that Octane is trying to save your Network render settings, but doesn't have access rights to the appropriate file.

Can you pls open then close Poser (which will crash on exit) and send me the octaneplugin.log file.

Also, when NOT running as Administrator, does entering and exiting the Network Render settings crash Poser?
"change all materials on this particular geometry to Diffuse in one go"
Deane - are you able to detail in what situation you need this pls? Also, have you seen the GLOSSY_DIFFUSE_RATIO setting in the OctaneDefaults.py file?

Thanks

Paul

Paul...
The attached video should hopefully explain what I mean.
The geometry items for "C07-Bottom" are loaded with a glossy node by default as the video shows.
I have to change each of the sub-geometrys to 'Diffuse' manually by picking each one of them... video

So what i'd like to be able to do, is pick the 'Mesh' say and right click and change all nodes to 'Diffuse' in one pick.

Notice also the refreshing of the Material Tree with each individual change to diffuse manually, this is the flashing of the tree I was talking about earlier.

Hope this explains what I mean...

And... where do i find that "OctaneDefaults.py" file again... hate Windows file structure.
