The GTX480 is a MONSTER in CUDA: 3.7 times faster than GTX285 in Folding@Home and
8 times faster than the 285 in their Optix pathtracing demo!!

Can't view that site as it is a reported Attack Page that tries to install spy software onto your computer!

Weird, the site worked fine just 30 minutes ago. I guess someone doesn't like these Fermi results and hacked it. I blame Charlie
You can still view the site if you choose "Ignore this warning".

Yeah, the reviews aren't going too well for this card. The theoretical and the actual proved to be miles apart. nVidia should have waited for the lab results to get in before hyping the card as much as they did in the early stages. That ushered in the "let down" effect. There appears to be a lot of pressure to get this card out the door but there remains a lot to be done in the long term. I will be happy with my GTX 260 for another year at least. I anticipate that long for current programs to catch up to this technology. Hopefully by then gen 2 or 3 cards will be lower power consumption, cooler, more memory, have better yields, and more importantly...cheaper!

Not really. Most reviews are quite positive. This is a chart summarizing the results of 11 reviews:
http://img39.imageshack.us/img39/2112/g ... allpng.jpg Overall 15% better performance than HD5870. Of course, these numbers don't mean anything for GPGPU applications like Octane. That's an area where Fermi really shines

Only because ATI doesn't have a chance to, on the software end!

No, no and no
OpenCL benchmarks (ATI can run openCL too) shows that the new GTX480 are like 2x faster than the higher end ati card
