Hey Juanjo, any news? Hopefully some good ones :)

I'm getting frustrated daily by this bug - I can't even rotate the HDRI which makes iteration very painful. I even wanted to roll back, but the previous version does not have a Houdini 18.5.499 build :/

With further working I realized one more thing - the Transform updates for materials if it's connected to a Displacement node and it doesn't if it isn't. I guess that Displacement node triggers the update in this case.

This problem will be fixed in Octane 2020.2.2, but I don't have any ETA yet.

Thanks,
-Juanjo

Hi folks,

How to setup ACES in Octane for Houdini?

Arnold and Redshift renders recognize ACES and it's view transforms by setting up OCIO variable inside houdini.env or package.
What is step by step process for octane? I tried to connect Ocio View node with ACES - sRGB transform to Camera Imager and select ACES as Intermediate Color Space, but result is not correct.
The same goes to Mplay render as well

The brick texture and the HDRI are converted to ACES in Nuke. Arnold and Redshift give identical colors, so everything is working right. But Octane produces completely off results

PFA examples of Arnold and Redshift comparison to Octane

Cheers

Can you please share your scene to take a look at it here? I want to export it to Standalone to check there if the problem could come from a bug on the plugin side or if something is not working fine on the Octane side.

Thanks,
-Juanjo

juanjgon wrote:Yes, you are right. I think that there is a problem with the transform nodes in this build. The scene is not updated automatically after changing any parameter of these nodes. It seems a core issue because the same happens in Standalone. I've reported this issue to the core devs.

Thanks,
-Juanjo
Do you know if it's fixed with 2020.2.2 today's core build, I can't see it in changelog ?
Thanks

Yes, I think that this problem has been fixed in the latest Octane 2020.2.2 core. I'll try to release a new Houdini plugin build in a couple of days, including also a proper plugin build for H18.5.532

Thanks,
-Juanjo

Hi Juanjo, thank you for the reply

Have you tried to configure the "Intermediate Octane color space" as "Linear sRGB" after disabling the automatic intermediate color space? This seems to match more the renderings of the other engines.

Thanks,
-Juanjo
