The scene is from the XSI_Samples, called Strand_Dynamics_Hair and was exported with the plugin.
The plugin gives better results without the MentalRay issues of flipping polygons.
The RenderMesh have also issues, because the plugin use MR...
You will see it on the video which is compressed now and will then uploaded to vimeo.
It shows the workaround to export existing scenes with strands or similar particles, to Octane.
Also the setup to export lights.
