Will be this time (Octane 2018.1) weights implement in Octane (through vertex access)?

Just curious : Will be there a way to have 2018.1 Vectron and Spectron features in the host app ?

Yes, 2018.1 will support vertex custom attributes, at least for the mesh objects.
Thanks,

Does anyone know if this means that with Octane LW 2018.1 we will be able to paint vertex colors in 3D-Coat and bring the LWO back into LW and render those vertex colors right in Octane LW? This would likely not be my normal way of doing things (lots of stuff would swing through Painter before LW), but for some quick-and-dirty stuff this would effing rock. Please advise.

Yes, this is the idea. Octane 2018.1 supports float and color vertex maps, that can be used like any other texture in the shaders.

Okay, okay.. now we are talking! Does this mean that we will be able to do all kinds of crazy crap with Weights too, like add/subtract Dirt with Weights?.. or set opacity of a material with Weights?.. Things like that?(!).. This would be insanity if this kind of stuff would be possible!.. Provided there is a way to convert weights to a grayscale image... Just thinking out loud here...

Any answer about Vectron & Spectron features in host app ?

Sorry, I'm not sure to understand your question. These features will be included in the plugins like any other, for example, the OpenVDB volumes, to be rendered by Octane. Of course, the host apps are not going to render them using their native renderers.
Thanks,

I mean in host app (LW) you can have Vectron grasses (with perhaps a modifier) and render them using Octane of course.

It is too early to know the details about how LW is going to support this feature, but it will support it for sure
Thanks,
