You have the Octane Environment set to Texture Environment, so the Poser Background geometry is blocking the Octane IBL. So yes, in that situation you should Display->Guides->Ground Plane OFF, or set the opacity of the GROUND->Background to 0. I will look to see if there are some warnings to assist users know that is an issue.

Not quite the same issue, but I'm getting good results with the sand-cloud texture of the construct. I patch in the sky texture of the background material of the ground object into the opacity channel, set translucency to 0.9 and patch the reversed sky texture into absorption. Shadow visibility of the ground geometry in this case is 1. That way, the clouds actually provide some shade by obstructing the sun.

Just bought the new Poser 11. My first impression: Superfly - no, the renderer is not very super. Many, many classes below Octane both in quality and speed.
I run the new testversion 2 plugin, Win 10 and NVidia 680TI.
So keep up the good work, please at Octane.
