I agree, material layers would be really useful. It's one of the things I really miss comparing octane to vray.

OSL may open the door to this and much more in v3. We haven't validated every possible use case, and I don't want to promise this one specifically is going to work until we test it out ourselves - but, in theory, it should be possible to edit/rewrite the BRDF OSL shaders to support multiple layered materials.

awesome. if it doesn't happen, i understand, but i'm very excited to hear you're considering it at least.

A layered material would be a cool option.
My only comment is make to sure the layered material is not additive by default (which would blow out this shader in render), or like V-Ray, have an additive tick box if you require this.

I would love to see a layered material.
But the mix material node should stay. It's usefull as well
