Maybe im doing something wrong then... The default skin - you mean the ones from liveDB?
They do not produce the SSS effect atall, and they are really convoluted some of them, to the point
i didnt know where should i apply my textures, because they come looking like a red jello... In poser
achieving skin with SSS and fairly realistic reflection/specular takes about 5 seconds... only reason i
switched to octane is the speed of rendering, and supposed quality of the rendering, but so far i
see that the time i save on rendering im gonna spend just modifying specular effect on the skin because
decent looking skin is made of 20 material mixes, and actually figuring out what which of them does what
and in what proportions, takes forever. I actually bought redspec skin shader (because so far its THE ONLY
one that actually looks like it has SSS effect on it) and im trying to figure out what happens if i change
any values, but i see no change wether i max them out or zero them (particularly in specular area)
I'm highly frustrated... :/

face_off wrote:Can you post a tutorial on how to make skin look like that? I have been really pissed about this... i have switched from poser firefly renderer
and it took five seconds there to make skin look realistic, and its retarded in octane... Makers of octane did not post any decent skin shaders
in live DB... there are few but no clue how to use them they are a color of a jello not skin, and i tried for few hours to figure out where to connect
the color textures, and specular maps and bump maps with no success... :/ its VERY frustrating.
The default skin material that the plugin generates for Poser figure skin materials should look better than the best Poser skin shader. If that isn't good enough for your rendering, you can get the RedSpec skin shaders. If you want to create your own - a good starting point is at

Already replied to you in the forums - as stated, new users should possibly look into learning OctaneRender and it's various functions first, before utilizing RedSpec as the material mix is quite complex and difficult to modify afterwards.
Hence the notes we put all over the homepage regarding that
Glad that you could find an applicable option for your situation though! Did you take a look at our RedSpec TGX Wet beta products?

These shaders were designed to make your characte really look WET - unlike our RedSpec TGX tailored shaders which were developed to give a realistic, dry skin shading option.

Thats fine, for what i need the skin to do, sadly your shader doesnt do much for me, i need it to be simple and look good and default octane shader does it perfectly for me.
Now that i have done it propery. Your hair shader on the other hand is VERY useful to me, and the skin even though it doesnt look that good to me taught me many things
about octane

. So no worries.

Sometimes you have to pay for the lessons
