Yes, that's what the clamp and colour correction node are doing. They're first reducing the information from the procedural (clamp), then increasing the contrast (colour correction). I just wish there was a 'contrast' node :)

Best way if you're using it is slap it into a diffuse node on the diffuse channel and get it looking right, then use it in the glossy's bump. A lot easier to figure. Let me know if it is any use to you.

Dude, that's a really clever solution! I don't see having to adjust it for every use a pain because basically you have to do that anyway. And having direct control over the texture properties in Octane instead of having to bounce back into C4D or Photoshop is a big time-saver. If Otoy can provide visual projectors that you can SEE, with mouse-adjustable rotation/scale/movement symbols, that would just about be the complete simplification.

Cheers. Would be better/easier with some better procedurals though

True. That is a huge landscape of possibilities.

Looks like you added a cylindrical projector for the curved scratches version? If Octane only had a sort of radial sweep function (akin to PShop's radial blur) that would be awesome.

Latest update. That brass bellows on the left had a lot of texturing, so it took a while. Now that that is done, the rest of this thing will go pretty fast, I think. Everything else is pretty much basic.

Two new images. Almost done!

The insanely badly done engraved serial number is actually true to form. After years of working with space hardware, I have always been amazed at the impeccable quality of workmanship, even for Class III hardware (not meant for flight). So when I opened up this gauge I couldn't believe how bad the serial number was, and had to laugh. At first I thought maybe it had been done by an amateur. Then I thought maybe it had been done by a guy on crack. I finally decided it had to have been done by an amateur on crack!

The hand-painted markings on the dial are also accurate. They were probably made with an old style ruling pen. So that jog in the arced box was actually there. I almost hated to do it that way, but I am documenting history, so there is no leeway in that respect.

One last internal image before the cover goes on. Then I'm going to play with bug's eye views inside it.
