Thanks!
I've plated around with the gamma and see what you mean. I'm working on a new project and would like to share here.

Pretty cool. Is that a trimaran? like USN see pic.
Lighting is a lot better. Perhaps your ocean could be slightly more blue and maybe have a prop wake too.

Busted!
You got me there Pixelrush... Actually, this concept trimaran yacht is based on the predecessor of the Navy LCS that you show. I live only 30 miles from where the LCS is being built by Austal in Mobile Al. Austal originated in Australia of all places and made their reputation for fast ferry boats and the yacht concept is not intended to be high speed but the client wants the stability and wide decks of the tri configuration. The yacht is about half scale from the Navy LCS and I'm still in styling form and mass studies. The fun will begin when I get all that interior space to play in. Basketball anyone? Shown here is a photo of the Austal car ferry and a similat perspective of the yacht model.
BTW, this water looks much lighter when the sunlight hits from a different angle. There are a lot of subtle tweaks that I'm learning for water and will post on the DB when I get figured out a bit better.

Haha!

I think maybe they were called Incat? in Tasmania
http://www.incat.com.au/
So its all aluminium with water jets and 2x5000hp Caterpillar marine diesels? HamiltonJet a NZ company were the pioneers for jet boats
See here large units for applications like yours

Keep up the good work
Edit: hmmm so maybe thats a bit overpowered for cruising

Tazzie's, Aussie's, Kiwi's, they have got this sort of thing all figured out! Your right about that being an Incat, but they got ahead of themselves and overbuilt with the help of the local govt pulling strings. There was a whole fleet of cats and tris laid up and could be bought for a song... Some heads rolled over that. I think that Austal bought what was left of Incat and then did a partnership here in Mobile with Bender Shipbuilding in order to get the US military work. The Yacht I'm working on is not intended for high speed, probably a single MTU on a waterjet drive and retractable thrusters in the outrigger hulls (ama's) for low speed manuevering and sunset cruises or extended range cruise. There is talk of two smaller diesels as gensets mounted well forward in hull and electric drives on the flanking drives and jet pump for redundancy and efficiency. Thanks for the reference to the drive manufacturer. Your right about needing some sort of wake, any ideas?

Thanks to Sam Page for his latest Rhino/Octane exporter. It seems to be working well even in V5 although I got an error message when I first tried loading it by dropping into an open V5 window. I dragged it into the V5 plugins window and it working now. New project, maybe a faster boat than the catamaran! This one is for a client and I'm hoping he takes the hook. These Octane renders are the best chum for getting the big fish into the action!

I'm not sure what the last post by julianne2010 was all about. Just my text and a link to some charter website Seadream ect. Is this a form of spam? If so, I hope the moderators are aware of it and I'd hate to see this sort of thing take place on this forum. I've been doing some more renders of the catamaran that I started this thread with as it was a submission to a modeling and rendering contest sponsored by T-Splines, a Rhino plug-in. I had created the hulls, cabin, sails, and some hardware items in T-Splines and thought I'd send the model in. I won some sort of consolation prise, a light version of Acrobat 3d and was pleased, but the real kick is that Z-Corp was looking at the submissions and offered to 3d print a model of my cat! They can't do the sails, so I've put the boat in the boatyard up on a cradle and the spars on sawhorses under the boat and thought that you guys might like to see the results.

Nice. Good too to win prizes.
I forgot to get back to you about the wake....
I did make a 'hand' painted grey scale texture of a wake with the idea it could influence opacity of a spec material. Unfortunately opacity maps seems to cause a system lockup for me and a few others with the latest Octane beta so I havent gotten any further with it. Basically its just a white stipple on a black background of the foam areas curving behind the boat and also some narrow V lines down sides at the bow and such.
Maybe you can make something like this too. In my experiment I just used Blender's UV texture painting tool - which can give you a realtime update of progress to the scene.
Rhino has always seemed a little difficult for me to get my head around for some reason any time I have played with the demo but T-Splines looks pretty cool. Some day I'll give it another try

Hi Pixelrush,
I'd like to hear more about the wake idea. I've seen it used before but never got the hang of it. I'm playing around with emitters in conjunction with the sunlight and environment map modes and find that they can be combined effectively. Seems that there are an infinity of ways to build a scene and that versatility is intriguing. I'll just keep throwing out the results here for comments, thanks for yours...

Here you go an experimental 1k x 1k painting. This one is partly done in MS Paint and also Paint.net. I cant actually find my last one - dont know what happened to it.

I have no idea how this looks in reality but you could mess around with it. I suppose you could use it in bump as well...
Edit: added crude Blender render using the tex. just for an idea of how it is - this was a stencil for a glossy mat though.
