From a programmer's standpoint, fish-eye is such a basic set of transformations that it really is not that big of a task to implement. It almost comes along "free for the ride". So the time required to add it to Octane is not a big impactor, IMHO. So I like the idea of having it quickly since I will probably always add a slight amount of barrel distortion to all of my images in the near future for that extra subtle realism.
I agree we REALLY need render region and displacement, and resume render, the last two being far harder to code than lens distortion. Not sure where render region fits in the difficulty spectrum.
But sometimes even with a priority list in hand, it is sometimes better to get some of the simpler stuff out of the way when you are working in that general area anyway, than have to come back later and have to re-familiarize yourself with code, which means added time for simple things.
