Here´s the way to do it in Modo:

1. Select the edges where you want the seams.
2. click "unwrap"
3. Done



I remember trying to unwrap in different softwares, and it was always a pain in the ass. When I found Modo I thought "Thats how it should be. Easy, fast. Why the others don´t do it that way"
