Ok, I think I found a stupid bug. This problem must have affected every Mac user. I wonder why noone else has reported it?!? Anyway I will release 0.05 soon which fixes the problem and adds a few more UVW conversions.
Cheers,
Marcus

I'm just testing the hair render stuff.. that works, when you set hair to generate/type flat..
so am I missing something or no texture export as yet..

The hair rendering in C4D uses some very elaborate and tricky volumetric rendering of hair primitives. That stuff can never be exported via OBJ and Octane only knows polygons anyway. So the only way is to generate actual geometry which is probably quite slow, but should work. There's not much I can do about it.

Marcus

It's really cool !
I see it works fine with bump from C4D but not with Normal from C4D.
Idem with specular color from C4D, not exported in Octane.
I don't know if it's normal or not inside limitations of .OBJ exporter, it's only for your information...
Thanks again a lot !

Yes, unfortunately OBJ doesn't store normal maps, i.e. they can't be exported (yet).
Specular color should get exported. But I see, no specular textures ... Sorry, I missed that. I will add it.

Marcus

Same thing here. OSX 10.6.3, C4D R11.530 64Bit
But its not really a problem. I press OK and the message box closes.
EDIT: Ah I saw you already fixed this.

just wanted to elaborate this a bit.. yes I know the hair only works properly when generated inside c4d.. but I posted a few grass renders using the hair to generate flat polygons..
you could like run an xpresso or a script (which I don't know, I do know it is doable with XPresso) to change all the tags of hair objects to generate - type flat, so it exports as polygons.. or we can do it manually.. that can be on a to do list
- maybe build an xpresso tool to do that, I know I did a basic tutorial that manipulates the textures so I guess you can do that with all the tags inside c4d..
Ok it doesn't even probably need that, since you can select multiple hair objects and change all of them to generate flat polygons, just tried it it's simple yet usefull, "works right outside of the box" just do the generate/flat & press render..
Yes it does runs slower since it's generating a lot more polygons, but for small scenes it could be usable
BTW
just tested this on octane export v 0.5 and I can see it exports the texture properly as well.. so it all works !!
That's what we needed, great work you doing guys, this is going to be a great help
