Can you please expand the team working on Octane for C4D to address aesthetic / usability issues? While the work Ahmet is doing is superb, UI architecture and design is clearly not his strong suit. The only way to improve things would be employing someone with the right experience in these areas. It would be nice when Octane 3 arrives if there was a new and highly improved workflow, interface & experience within Cinema 4D… Something that didn't feel so "backyard" or rough around the edges.
Can you please explain better these? I can't agree about usability/workflow until give a solid critism.

1-aesthetic / usability issues?

2-Design?

3-Highly improved workflow?

To touch specifically on Octane for C4D's usability:

The workflow is a mess of panels and buttons which are often duplicated throughout the interface. There is no meaningful flow of operations and only through trial and error do we understand how it works. This is a design problem. Octane has so many parameters requiring user manipulation- structuring a logical arrangement of these parameters is a huge interface architecture job. Finding a solution is not a trivial task and will require significant attention from talent experienced in this field.

And to touch on Aesthetics:

Octane for Cinema 4D uses poor quality icons that do not integrate within the C4D interface. The main toolbar doesn't adhere to (user editable) icon display settings and feedback behaviour.

I'm trying to understand you. As you may know i'm also 3d generalist not just a programmer. And yes i'm not good for icon/graphics design and can't deny about this critism on icons. This is not hard to change. Also you can change your own buttons. Also this kind of arrangement is possible.

Btw, what's the point about this? Still couldn't got it, sorry. Are you talking about kernels, tags, settings, etc.. parameters?

Hey don't be sorry, I should be explaining things better. I think we are close to being on the same page, at least on what I'm talking about :)

Here's an example:
Image
Options / Settings / Settings-inside-Settings. The way these parameters are structured isn't great.

Another example:
Image
2 menu's, in different locations, sharing 3 of the same buttons.

These are just 2 examples of a larger overall issue. So what I'm talking about is the hierarchy and layout of controls. While all the buttons and fields are there, somewhere… it isn't intuitive to operate.

Back to icons, that screenshot you showed looks promising. At least now the buttons appear to be C4D native buttons? Could I enable text like other C4D palettes? Or even disable the icon altogether leaving just text? If so, how can I have that layout right now  ?

No that's a truth. 2.24 -> 3.0 open beta i think. multiply times by 1.5x always. 2.24 is bug fix release with Cloud rendering. First test version of 3.0 is under development to release soon.

shift+F12. Search Octane* commands. New palette and drop some commands. And close icons from LV's gui menu. And i'll check these requests. But after this hot days...

Hello,

Don't know if this was mentioned before, but could you expose "Octane Object Tags" Basic tab in Attributes Manager, I was just animating a bunch of Visibility Sliders and since I can't rename the tag It was a pain knowing which one I am animating in Curves editor.

Thanks,

Sandi

Hi Aoktar,

I have observed that when I need to edit an object in Standalone, or to export to an ocs o orbx for only some objects in C4D scene, there will be exported all materials even if they are not assigned to the active objects effectively exported. Then I must clean in the node editor of Standalone the unused material for more clean view in Graph Editor. In the case of orbx are also exported the textures so the dimension of file grow accordingly.
The cleaning of unused materials is frustrating and is time consuming, expecially when there are 20-50-100 materials to delete.

Am I perhaps forgetting something on the procedure?

Another question is on Render Passes, if selected it is not exported as visible node on Graph Editor but it will be present only on Node Inspector.
Last one questions on Other Settings, what mean "syncronization on geo. updates" and "Experimental"?

Many thanks for your attention
